You tell Inzo to throw you.

"...Has hume got madness?!"

You tell him you know what you're doing.

You don't, but you tell him you do.

Inzo grabs you with his mech's huge hands... and chucks you through the air, over the mantrap.

Well, mostly over it. You don't... quite get as much distance as you'd hoped for. Inzo's mech might not be strong enough to hurl a human being that far, or it might have just been a communication issue.

You consider using your wind wand to blow yourself further, adding to your distance before you hit the ground, however:

1.) The last few times you used your wind wand to just... make wind, it didn't blow very hard.

2.) Your wind never pushed you back, just whatever you blew the wind at. If you COULD theoretically shoot wind harder, it wouldn't affect you as the wielder of the wand.

As you tumble toward the top of the mantrap, though, desperation overrides reason. You turn your wand around in your hand and thrust backward... hard. With feeling.

You launch yourself through the air, propelling forward and landing cleanly behind the mantrap.

Inzo rushes forward, again going to attack--but it's a feint, just a move to get the mantrap to reposition Ranse. More specifically, to hold her steady, the monster going to use her as a shield.

With Ranse held stable for a moment, you turn and swing your wand, air slashing straight through the base of the vine that's holding her.

Ranse stumbles as she lands, and--now standing within feet of the plant--immediately unloads with her pyrespewer. Inzo throws another gob juice... but you thrust your wand at an odd angle, attempting to create a strong wind away from your wand, where the airborne bottle is.

It works.

Sort of.

Your wind picks up the bottle, giving it some extra distance in a random direction--the mantrap swings at the bottle but misses. Getting it BACK on course is a whole different problem, though, and your attempt to blow the bottle back toward the mantrap just leads to it kind of... bouncing around in the air... and not hitting anything in particular.

But, while the mantrap is busy trying to defend itself from the very erratic flight of the gob juice, and while it's trying to stop Ranse from burning it alive--

Inzo takes a series of free shots at the monster, hauling off and punching it repeatedly right in the face. Between that and all the burning, the mantrap eventually goes down.

Inzo's bottle hits the ground, exploding harmlessly. Not exactly what you wanted, but it worked anyway.

The monsters drop pyre ant parts and irregular foliage. The pyre ants were also carrying 30g for some reason.

Ranse leveled up! Ranse reached level 4. Learned that she really likes fire.

Make sure Ranse is OK and see if she wants ant parts, then cast identify on foliage
ZincFingers 26th May 2018, 9:25 PM edit delete reply
Oh, yeah, check on Ranse. Maybe make some enquiries about the book she mentioned. having Lagrand look at it could help improve his vine grappling... and we can also study it, for... reasons.

+1 to check on Rance. Also, tell Inzo he did a good job. Because he did.
TheMightyDragonLizard 27th May 2018, 5:51 AM edit delete reply
+1... also what the hell does "that she really likes fire" mean? Did she learn fire magic or... something worse...
ZincFingers 26th May 2018, 9:20 PM edit delete reply
So do we want to keep hunting? Or turn in for the day?

Not knowing what the market value of ants part is, we still need to collect a fair chunk of gold.

Also, might be worth looking into a way to fireproof the mech. Although we should probably cross some other items off our list before adding more.

Assess the parties condition, but sure if they are up for it.
TinkerBill 26th May 2018, 9:27 PM edit delete reply
I would think the irregular foliage might be handy for inzo. maybe the elasticity of the tendrils would be handy for the joints of his wooden MECH. and more pyre spewer parts could be co-opted for Ranse to upgrade her pyrespewers capacity or damage or range, idk which it would really help.
RedEclipse 26th May 2018, 10:17 PM edit delete reply
See if you can replace the reinforced vines with some of the mantraps vines (after you reinforce them) or see if Inzo can use them on his machine to help with load tension .Perhaps using a stronger kind of vine or foliage will render better results and you can see if you can reinforce things that once where living.

Can Inzo and Ranse work together to make a pyrespewer module for Inzo's mech? It's a tank already - might as well make it a beastly one!

Ranse really likes fire, after all.

+1 to checking in on Ranse (and on asking her what she was saying about tentacles earlier not being what she'd imagined ;) and thanking Inzo for his impressive performance.

As for the Foliage, we might want to have Lagrand study and meditate on it first. It might yield a new spell or ability for him. Potentially even something along the lines of what Ranse was imagining before the Maneater crushed her dreams. Then let Inzo work with it, assuming it hasn't rotted or was otherwise consumed by Lagrand's meditation.

As for the Pyreant Parts, we might want to see if they can be used to fireproof the mech. That way we don't have to worry about the ants, or crossfire from Ranse, going forward.

+1 to hearing more about Ranse's tentacle porn

Have Ranse whip us up some healing concoctions to heal up any damage to our party from the fight.
Lapdragon 27th May 2018, 12:05 AM edit delete reply
Also, in looking at our party stats - Justice doesn't have any sort of weapon, so we should touch base with her and find out what sort of offensive/defensive gear priests use in this world. We might want to look into reinforcing one of the tentacles as a staff/focus for her.
Twelveseal 27th May 2018, 12:21 AM edit delete reply
+1 to getting Justice geared up. However, if we want her to have something like that, it might be better to see if we can use Lagrand's Treant Needles and Reinforce them, that way she has a passable spear to begin with. If so, it might be a sign that we can use Spells in ways beyond their basic descriptions.

Also, the Wind Wand makes me think of the Wind Waker. Might consider using it like a conductor's baton as well as trying some other general movements.

Congratulations all around!
Ranse for keeping her cool under trying circumstances, Inzo for persevering and looking out for a teammate, and to the poster who first suggested using the wand as jet propulsion.
That worked out beautifully! ^_^

+1 for congratulating the team and tending to injuries. Ranse must be hurt from travelling underground and Inzo's mech could use some repairs for the light damage it took.

Meanwhile we can try to understand how we did the flying thing. Try to remember the feeling it had while it is still fresh in our memory.

We should think about training at some point. We keep discovering new ways to use the Wand, we should try and figure out what movement do what so we don't end up causing an accident by trying random movements during a fight.

Once we are done we could head towards the beach. There's most likely a fishing dock, the fishermen might have rumors for us. The beach might be a good place to relax later, too. Worst case scenario, we encounter a giant crab or aggressive mermen.

Going to the beach.. There is a town called Lightsend just to the west. This is where justice comes from.

I would believe there is a lighthouse in Lightsend. Like, for boats. May be wrong, talk to Justice about it?

+1 to the beach

Could we get a list of moves we've learned with the wand on our party page?
1977 27th May 2018, 1:46 AM edit delete reply
Now that we can speak a little with Ranse I have mainly 2 questions:
1. Which kind of monster do we have to fight so she can construct a lightning-cannon?
2. Can we have some of the books for the KingSlime?
She mentioned that everything she knows she learned from books and these books are sure good educational material for her.
Fireopal 27th May 2018, 8:08 AM edit delete reply
Why do books for the King Slime keep being suggested? What's the significance of this?
1977 27th May 2018, 8:40 AM edit delete reply
You can read everything on this page:

what I refer to in my post is specifically this:
"Admittedly," King continues, "I only know what I've read in books... and my only books were dropped by fleeing travelers."

So my logical conclusion is give her books to educate her and books about tentacle porn sure are educational to a shapeshifter :)

Something to consider for the future, after we're done in Threeroads:
Visit Peace Calling. Find out what the story is with the girl at the inn, talk to Nast's parents and find out about any long-lost siblings.

Aww. Sweet. We have to bring Valley too and introduce her to Nasts parents. It will be delicious weird.

Gallstone 27th May 2018, 2:44 PM edit delete reply
Heck, we'll have to introduce them to the whole party. ^_^

Nast: "Hi, Mom and Dad. These are my, uh, co-workers."

Lagrand: "Is that what the young folks call it these days?"

Valley: "Dude, it's like, he's trying to break it to his parents gently?"

Inzo: "Break what? Nast just talking. Inzo like breaking better. What do we break first?"

Ranse: "So. Awkward."

Justice: "Hello, good people. Blessings of the goddess upon your house."

Nast: "... So, yeah. Um. Becoming a fisherman is definitely off the table. Uh, so, this is Valley, Inzo, Lagrand, Inzo and uh, Justice. And uh, there's a... thing. You know how you guys wanted grandchildren? Well, uh. I, um. Ssssoooo, à propos of nothing, do I have any sisters you guys never told me about, or was I, ih, adopted...?"

Inzo: "Humes turn funny colours."

Valley: "Maybe we should, like, wait outside?"

Justice: "Why?"

Lagrand: "It might be more tactful..."

Ranse: "Alsoless awkward."

Nast: "HahawhatareyoutalkingaboutdontleavemealoneinherePLEASE"

Yes. Still very much in favor of this, at some point.

Those things would have a carapace, maybe some add on armor for Inzo's mech... because I figure their carapace would be fireproof and his mech is MADE. OUT. OF. WOOD.... would rather not have Inzo burn up the first time he faces a fire mage. (An easier idea for the artist is maybe Ranse can make something to imbue fire protection to the mech. A reddish tinted varnish maybe.)

Identify the foliage, I might be useful for the future sex golem.
