You ask the cleric what her name is.

"My name is Justice," she replies with a smile. She pretty much always replies with a smile.

You ask how she joined the faith, and got involved with the church.

"I always wanted to help people," responds Justice. "There is so much evil in the world, and I would like to do something about it! Stories of the goddess, and displays of her power through the hands of mortal men, it all truly resonated with me. I thought to myself, 'I could do so much with the power to heal people.' I grew up in Lightsend, to the west of Threeroads, so the journey to join the church was not a long one."

Getting back to the subject of miracles, you ask if performing that healing one wore her out at all.

"Only a little," she says. "It was very exhausting when I first performed it, and difficult as well. As I've grown stronger in the goddess, it has gotten much easier."

You point out that she didn't seem to petition the goddess for the miracle--she just... kind of did it.

Justice nods. "Acquiring a miracle the first time requires great prayer and supplication. Some of the most powerful miracles are only given in times of great need. Once a cleric has performed it once, though, the miracle becomes their own--they can perform the miracle much more quickly."

You don't say it out loud, but this all does sound exactly like how magic works. Your spells spark from sudden inspiration, but many mages--including Lagrand--have to meditate or study to come up with new spells. Justice's prayers to the goddess COULD just be an odd form of meditating. Aside from the comparison to other mages, though, her story seems to mostly check out; a goddess giving gifts of great power to devoted worshipers seems appropriate. Hard to say.

You ask if the goddess has ever refused a miracle.

"I've been told that, if a cleric strays from the path, they will lose their connection to the goddess," Justice says a bit more solemnly. "I have never witnessed it myself."

What would straying from the path entail? What does the goddess disapprove of?

"The interpretations vary, actually!" Justice perks up again. "We are to help the less fortunate where we can, not obsess over material goods, and forgive slights against us. Early in the church's history, it was thought that the goddess abhors violence, and sexual deviance. Clerics have fought dutifully against undead and demons with their blessings intact, however, and--"

You see Justice really pause in her rambling, maybe for the first time. She... briefly glances away, her mouth a little open as she looks for the words.

"--the goddess does not seem to take issue with sexual activity, as it turns out."

You ask what the church's activities are in Threeroads.

"Our church..." she pauses again, but this one is less of a fun pause. "...Will be doing more after this construction is finished. Presently, our aid to the city needs improvement, and is mostly down to the actions of a few clerics like myself. We do need the cathedral to be finished, though--I understand why our attempts to improve Threeroads have slowed while the construction is ongoing. Once things are back to normal we'll be helping the poor, healing the sick and injured, and defending the city from sinister forces. I just need to be patient!"

So... they're not doing any of the good stuff right now. Just feathering their nest.
O - kay.

1. Ask Justice whether clerics are allowed to leave for solo work, and whether she'd like to add her skills to an effort to stop the panty thief's reign of terror.

2. If she says no, say goodbye, nice and polite, and hit the bricks for Threeroads. Ask if it'll be okay to come back and see her again sometime before we go, though.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 3:25 PM edit delete reply
If she says no, she may be able to do a little inspiration, which could still help out Nest uncover the panty thief.
Tech 20th May 2018, 10:40 PM edit delete reply
+1 to both of these. Also invite her to join the party.
Gallstone 20th May 2018, 3:19 PM edit delete reply
On a sidenote, I don't think it matters so much whether Justice is divinely inspired or simply a witch with a specific focus -- or a combination of the two.
Regardless Ranse's feelings on clerics, Justice at least seems like a good person who only sought power to do good in the world. We don't know whether her deity is real, and really it's not our business to rattle her faith unless we somehow find out the church is a gigantic scam run by demons/devils to corrupt the souls of the faithful, or something equally horrific.
K3001 20th May 2018, 3:26 PM edit delete reply
Fair enough
Guest 20th May 2018, 8:03 PM edit delete reply
Agreed, but we might want to check in on the bishop, just in case. Not based on any religious beliefs, just solely on story tropes about power.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 3:20 PM edit delete reply
Check in on her desire to see Justice done.

See if church has a cake.

Absolutely keep Valley around, she's hot, powerful, adaptable and up for romping.

Also, should see if Justice gains a "miracle" like Nest does. That High Elf starting a holy harem sounds suspicious. Valley may be up for a romp with her as well.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 3:24 PM edit delete reply
Give Valley the purple cloak as a gift, and also for cool cloak action. Also so you match with purple hair and cloak.
Gallstone 20th May 2018, 3:25 PM edit delete reply
I dunno. Wouldn't a cloak get in her way during melee battle? No need to give enemies extra handholds...
barswanian 20th May 2018, 3:28 PM edit delete reply
That's true. She's been pretty useful, and I like the idea of a gift.

Maybe there is non-demonic cake here though.
Nieki 20th May 2018, 3:44 PM edit delete reply
I feel like the Baker's guild is the place to go for sweets, to be honest.
Guest 20th May 2018, 7:54 PM edit delete reply
Angel food cake is probably the best for healing though.
Guest 20th May 2018, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
Why wouldn't we keep Valley around? Do you mean "in the active party", or was their some campaign to get rid of her?
barswanian 20th May 2018, 10:07 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, I mean keep her in the party.
Jax 20th May 2018, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
If we need cake that is what Bakeries are for and I am sure we have plenty of gold for that. For now how about we ask about the reason we came here... Goblin orgies.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 4:32 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, bakery guild would make sense.
Is everyone's miracle the same?
Mind Fever 20th May 2018, 4:15 PM edit delete reply
Specifically, why did the church think that the goddess disliked sex and violence before? What changed their minds?
As long as we’re here, let’s get all the information we can. I’d advise against inviting her to the party though. That’s a fast ticket to making Ranse and Lagrande angry.
We might want to inquire about the texts that the church is founded on. Can we get a copy? Maybe Ranse or Lagrande can look for suspicious bits in the holy books.
Knowledge is power.
1977 20th May 2018, 4:19 PM edit delete reply
Say we want to do good deeds as well.
Maybe she can join us in threeroads.
Later there is a goblinvillage we have to return to to do a lot of good deeds, she could join us there as well.
The goddess sure is happy if her clerics do good for all races not only humans, right?
Inquisitor 20th May 2018, 4:21 PM edit delete reply
There’s a lot of wrong with what you just said.
Gallstone 20th May 2018, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
Ehhh... It would feel REALLY bad if we tricked someone into agreeing to a goblin orgy. Better if we find someone who agrees to it for their own reasons.
Mind Fever 20th May 2018, 4:20 PM edit delete reply
We should also ask about the building schedule, or at least the projected completion time. This bishop wouldn’t be the first guy to fool a bunch of nice people into building stuff for him. Justice seems nice, maybe. The bishop sets off more red flags every time he’s mentioned.
That bit at the end about being patient sounds particularly cultish.
Iago 20th May 2018, 4:23 PM edit delete reply
Sinister forces ? Should be wary of anything specific as we head into town ?

Might as well try to double-check that whole "clerics can sex" thing, just to be sure. Physical evidence would be more convincing.

If she's up to play the missionary and join our errant group, offer. We are trying to right a wrong done to us, after all. And ensure some sort of peace.
In a mostly civilized manner, to boot.
No real need to insist if not, that whole cult is still very weird.

Either way, time to hit the city.
Mind Fever 20th May 2018, 4:27 PM edit delete reply
After we ask the last questions and on the way out, we should cast identify on the building. Curiosity won’t kill us yet.
1977 20th May 2018, 4:49 PM edit delete reply
Curiosity should never kill us. After all we're humans, not cats.
Sonico 20th May 2018, 7:19 PM edit delete reply
+1 to the Identify. Might show nothing, might turn up some fun surprise. Checking doesn't hurt.

Double check on the whole sex & violence stances and their changes, along with any news on the city and the church's past & present work or struggles there, sounds good too.
Guest 20th May 2018, 5:04 PM edit delete reply
I think we might want to take care of some of our earlier quests before we go off to the New city. Let's hit up the entertainer's guild, find someone willing to get freaky with a buttload of goblins, and create an army of giant chickens. (admittedly, that last one may be more of a "me" thing"
barswanian 20th May 2018, 5:06 PM edit delete reply
I wonder if Justice is different from the others because she's been affected by Nest's "Je ne sais quoi" and the others weren't? And if so, why that is.
If we're asking questions and not seeing if she gains miracles with some enchanter/minitaur banging, looking into that might be good. Could be Justice hasn't been fully put under Father Falk's pull.

“We need to stay, we could ask relevant questions about the VERY MANY quests we are on”
-proceeds to not-
Ask important questions
Or... leave?

I agree there’s a chance something is going on here.
I said that last time.
But we aren’t really even asking that many important questions about this place, let alone our current quest load.
I said this would be a waste of current time and it is proving to be as much.

But I give in. Y’all ain’t going anywhere. So
Fuck the claric.
Convince her there will be many on the road to your destination that could use her help, she could call it a mission or whatever.
If she tags along, swap her out with Ranse.
Weather o not she does decide to go, swap Valley for Inzo. I miss him. See if he’s got any new features for his mech, or any progress on his tinkerings for you.
Ask him how he’s been in general. What’s he been up to.
Maybe take the chance to get some gob juice for our inventory.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 7:47 PM edit delete reply
Big fan of keeping Valley around.

But this whole Bishop is the only male thing reeks of someone activating mages via inspiration, but calling it magic. Verifying that; and whether or not the cleric gets new power after a tryst with Nast, could be important down the line. Could be really important just to have an ally in this organization.
Cloudy 20th May 2018, 8:16 PM edit delete reply
+1 the investigating the Male bishop.
I agree, I’m just saying if we stick around we might as well ask the big questions.
And I love Valley, don’t get me wrong. She’s sweet and strong and honestly I feel like she sees more than just an adventure teammate and fuck buddy in Nast. It’s super cute. But I miss Inzo. And I really want him on the party. So if the cleric comes I’d like the party to be her and Inzo, if she doesn’t come, then I’d like Inzo + a party member- and I’d like to see how he interacts with Ranse after prolonged traveling together,

They way she casually dropped the fact that the goddess doesn't frown on sexual activity sounds to me like she could be flirting with us. She may want to fuck us, but she's not as forward as some of the others we've met.

Mention to her that we are in need, and tell her the story about how we have been framed for the crime of being a panty thief and we need to clear our name. Ask if she wants to join us in this quest, and if she does, we can work our charm on her and see if we can get inspired. Plus having some real heals in the party could be a big plus.
barswanian 20th May 2018, 10:09 PM edit delete reply
We do have Ranse who can heal, and if we get Valley some cake, she can heal. And fight.
