You step outside and head back to the field where the chickens are. Though Lagrand's good at hiding it, you can see hints that he's still fuming a bit--for now, you switch your active party members out, letting Lagrand go cool off while you call for Valley.

Without necessarily making any requests or suggestions, you ask Valley's opinion about... all this.

"It's, like... whatever?" She crosses her arms, looking out over the ranch. "Working on a ranch like this is, like, what most minitaur women end up doing. Laying around all day, totally stuffing your face, getting milked... having a bunch of babies. Like, it does sound totally fun, but I wanted to fight? Like, I wanna be a warrior."

Valley gives a small, soft sigh. "Our women used to be like... battle support? Minitaur milk can, like, heal and junk. So we'd fight beside the men, and like... when they'd get hurt, they'd just like... suck a titty, and get back at it. Minitaur armies aren't like... a thing anymore, though? Men become mercs, women become..." she waves her hands around, "this. It's not like, cool and heroic like we used to be. ...Though, we do have cake now, so like... it's not all bad?"


You also recall Ranse saying there were three main religions in this country--one of them being the Magists, who worship the old archmages. You ask Ranse about the other two religions.

Ranse meets your gaze only for a second before looking elsewhere. "Well. Th-there's... Traditionalists. They... believe in the old gods. P... Pre-archmage gods. There were... temples. Statues. Hints of gods... p-predating our civilization. High elves... worshipsomeofthem. I don't... know much else. About that one."

Ranse swallows roughly, playing with her hands a bit. "And... the... the new one. If y-... if you see clerics, it's them. They believe in one goddess. Period. Th... they'resortofcrazy. Their... clerics, are witches. Their belief... in, in a goddess issostrong that... that they build spells. With her. As the focus."

Valley turns to Ranse, shrugging her shoulders a bit. "Like, pretend I don't know anything about magic? ...Why is that so crazy?"

Ranse gives a long, dry sigh. "M-Magic. Should have... a school. A mage's spells... should do one thing. One. Conjure. Enchant. Summon. Idon'tcare. Just ONE. PICK one. B-... basing it on a "key" or a "theme" or... or whatever. It's too close... to... to what the archmages did. Th... they didn'thavelimits. They could... cast anything. No restrictions. None."

Ranse takes a deep breath, tipping her head back and looking at the sky. "S-saying you can cast anything as long as it's forest related or death related. Is. Crazy. M... magic doesn't, work that way. Not since the archmages... fell. Th... the last war they fought, it... it ch-changedhowmagicworks. You HAVE to have a limit. You. Have to. S-so, for... time mages, or th-these clerics, or even LAGRAND to... to work, around it, they..."

Ranse lowers her gaze. She locks eyes with you.

"Something's... not right. With them. Necromancers and, and time mages, they're all short a few marblesandyoucanseeit. Th-they're... lunatics, and criminals. Clerics... are delusional. Zealous. C-creepy. Th... they live in. Their own little world."

Valley squints. "But, like... Lagrand seems okay?"

"Yeah," Ranse replies. "H... he does. He shouldn't. S-... something's off. About him. Something... has to be. I j... just don'tknowwhat."



You consider the next step. It's already getting dark--if you hurry, you may be able to make it to Threeroads... but monster attacks are more frequent, and more dangerous, at night time.

You could try to catch the elf that's been trying to grab (?) chickens at this ranch. However, the rancher implied it hasn't happened very often, which means catching the elf in the act could be troublesome.

Now that it's dark, you could head back to the bridge--your odds of getting ambushed by thieves are likely higher now that the sun's set.

And, off the top of your head--the rancher mentioned the clerics do have a temple just down the road, right outside of Threeroads. You could probably reach it easier than you could the city itself.

I say check out the clerics, but if Valley's milk has healing properties, we should keep that in mind for the future. I know she wants to just be a warrior, but a warrior who can also heal would be amazing. (This isn't even from a fetish perspective. Healing is always good.)

Additionally, if Valley would be ok with being Battle support, she could easily carry the party.

She did seem to love the idea of being like battle support how things used to be seems two for the price of one day to me. Party gets healing, she becomes more like her heroic ancestors. That said I say why not stick around and guard the ranch. Either 1. You catch the thief or 2. You hang around a fairly safe place till morning. Win/win

Well, she might be ok with Nash milking her as foreplay.

Might be a good idea to bottle some as healing potions.

With cake everything is better. Nast should learn how to bake.

Since Valley seems not against the idea we should consider helping them with their order.
At the least we could get a discount for the chickens or at best we get their help with the goblintribe.

I think the city is too far, so not going there.
I doubt that Ranse would like it to stay a night in the temple, so we should go later.
Only bandits or elfs left. I say pick one of these 2.

Hmmmm, I'm split between heading to the clerics for the night, or camping nearby and keeping an eye out for the elf. Maybe the party should put it to a vote?

Hmm, tough call. The clerics seem to make Ranse antsy, but there might not be any goings-on here. I'd discuss with Ranse if she'd be interested in investigating the clerics. If so, that's my vote

Fascinating.
I'm curious now. Gonna have to learn more at some point, get Lagrange's'opinion, and more.

But until then, I'd offer the ranch guy our help regarding those monsters and elf intruders, in exchange for the night and some supplies.
Would cost more if he wants better than guard duty.

The minimilk thing - and Valley's view on it - is good to know too, if not really relevant right now.

I'm going to recommend camping near the ranch for now.

If the elf comes and we can nab him, fine and dandy.
If not, then we can move on to the big city and maybe that shrine by the light of day.

So Ranse doesn't like lagrand's magic so he must be evil. God, that is some superb logic coming from the alchemist who knows to little about magic to identify a wand.

She never said evil, just that he was "off". And that he smelled like butts.
She seems to be getting along fine with him for now, so I see no need to stir that pot.

My vote is stay the night and see if we can catch a thief. Just one though, no need to waste too much time here.

Side note, I think the party balance is a bit better with one of our tanks back up front. We still need a better weapon for Rance, my vote is still spear.
