You ask about the riding birds.

"Sure! C'mon an' follow me, I'll letcha have a look!"

The rancher leads you out back, where there are numerous... large... birds.

"Th..." Ranse starts quiet, but ups her volume before she continues. "They'rejustmassivechickens."

"Well, not exactly," says the rancher. "These babies are bred fer speed! They're some o' th' fastest animals on land, an' they ain't too bad in a fight, neither. They can be yers for jus' 75g a piece. I got plenty, too. Best of all, if'n ya like breakfast, these birds make some huuuge eggs."

Lagrand speaks up, albeit hesitantly. "Pre... sumably just the females of the species, correct?"

"Nope," the rancher replies, shaking his head. "They ain't got genders and they all make eggs. Ain't even gotta mate, eggs just happen. Blame a wizard."

You ask the rancher if he's heard any rumors of weird ongoings, or if there's been reports of bandits.

"Don't hear much out in these parts," the rancher says. "Not lately, anyhow. Bandits might explain why business's been so slow! Naw, all th' excitin' stuff's gonna be to th' north west, up at Threeroads. Jus' follow th' road, ya can't miss it--big ol' city with th' giant walls. All I been seein' lately's th' usual monsters tryin' to eat muh birds, and those dern clerics goin' door to door."

my thoughts on the matter

Ask about the monsters and the clerics. Also, on the topic of chickens... Hens will lay eggs without any roosters present, they just never hatch...
K3001 15th May 2018, 3:53 PM edit delete reply
Those chickens should eat a lot to be strong enough to carry a rider and even more to produce such large-sized eggs. Also, pets require care and attention and you're about to get busy. Also, you are limited in funds. Consider buying one only if you have a feeling that you'd have to carry something heavy of someone from your party fails to keep up the pace (the caravan always travels with the speed of it's slowest camel).

Well, he said they are bred for speed, being the fastest animals on land.
If this is correct and not just hyperbole then they should be very useful.
Having breakfast is an added bonus.

I'll buy the limited funds, food could be negligible if they can forage. If we need more than one for the party, then definitely no.

They're magic. They don't necessarily need to eat much.

We could sell the eggs in a pinch. One bird seems like a pretty good deal.
Fireopal 16th May 2018, 3:15 AM edit delete reply
The eggs could be magical, too, and maybe Ranse can do something with them.

Ask about the clerics. We could do with a sexy nun-um, I mean, a healer in our party.
Hambone 15th May 2018, 9:16 PM edit delete reply
A beefy healer type could be our speed...

Gonna say no to riding a big chicken. o_o;

Who else wants to check the barn and make sure the Minitaurs are being treated fairly?
1977 15th May 2018, 4:38 PM edit delete reply
+1 to checking the barn
Guest 15th May 2018, 5:04 PM edit delete reply
+1 on that
Guest 15th May 2018, 4:03 PM edit delete reply
I would say check out the minitaur milking thing next, see if it's legit or not. Also, F*%& YEAH GIANT CHICKENS!
Mochi 15th May 2018, 4:08 PM edit delete reply
this ranch is weird let's leave
Guest 15th May 2018, 5:04 PM edit delete reply
Do not fear the chickens
Hambone 15th May 2018, 10:11 PM edit delete reply
It is definitely giving out some odd vibes.

Hmm, if this door to door business is normal for clerics then it would be a perfect disguise for bandits.
When they rob a caravan they wear all black clothes and masks and afterwards they just remove the mask and pull a robe over the clothes.
Guest 15th May 2018, 5:03 PM edit delete reply
Good point, how do the bandits operate?
Krylo 15th May 2018, 8:27 PM edit delete reply
Ask how much for a fried chicken leg
Twyll 15th May 2018, 10:01 PM edit delete reply
What do the chickens eat? Can they forage, or do they have to be fed? That'd be a looooot of chicken feed...

We all seem to be caught up in the giant ass chickens. And granted, they’re pretty distracting. But, uh, minitaur milk.
Are the gals, like, down for this? This isn’t some thing were they’re being milked against their will is it?
Do Valley’s species’ female’s normally just sell their milk?
I’m guessing it’s not from bulls but I mean if we don’t ask we’d never know would we.
