Morgenstern
You remind Lagrand of the most important mission--to stop the actual panty thief and clear your own name.

"Ah, of course," he replies. "I became so lost in our series of side quests, I forgot what the original goal was intended to be."

The subject of thieves gets you thinking, though--the thieves hitting up caravans for disguise potion materials IS extremely suspicious, given everything else going on. You need to head westward, anyway--a larger city is likely to have mythril pins, better gear, and... uhhh... women more inclined to meet your goblin quota.

For now, you exit Humblestart and head west. You stick to the roads, as they're less likely to run into random monsters (and more likely to run into the potion thieves, one would suspect).

...Nonetheless, you find yourself attacked by a couple of random pyre ants.

Wind wand strike to cut their heads off.

Try experimenting with your wand movements if they are still far away and don't spit fire or appear to have any other ranged attack.

Try a spiral or a circular movement.

+1
Ants will march themselves to death if their paths circle

I suspect they spit fire, they ARE pyre ants after all. That having been said, I would think that pyre ant parts might be valuable, and potentially of significant use to our randy alchemist.

Also: just think - if Inzo can make explodey potions out of slime goo, what could he make out of actual combustibles?

Swish and flick.

This does seem to be a good time to get some... wand practice, especially considering our morning with Lagrand.
(I'm nikki! I registered as this cos it wasn't taken.)

I say we test out our poison spell as well, and see how effective it is in combat.

The spell Poison is on touch.
Wind Wand is ranged weapon.
Ranged attacks seem safer for me, seeing these mandibles.

If they do manage to close with us, though, Poison would be a good option.

Man I wish we had another translation potion, maybe the ants aren't hostile? Can we hold off on wand practice until we know for sure?
Guest 13th May 2018, 5:26 PM edit delete reply
Why do these ants have 8 legs...?

Mutant giant ants ?
Spiders disguised as ants ?
Or maybe ... Potion thiefs with a low entomology skill disguised as giant pyre ants ?

Shout a warning.
If they don't answer, send them flying.
If they scream in common as they fly, they're either bandits or more interseting than they look. Go find them to figure that out.

And if that doesn't work, get ready for a fight - and keep that acid resistance potion handy.
