You stop to read the inscription at the base of the broken statue.

"This temple built to honor Archmage Neid, who flooded the kingdom and killed thousands. May we never take his power for granted again."

You follow the fairy up a winding staircase...

and find the rest of the fairies.

"That's him!," one shouts.

"That's one of the humans," another agrees.

The fairies all begin to loudly talk among themselves, but there's so many of them that you can't make much out. Beneath them is a fountain, which appears to perpetually generate water. It flows over and off the sides of the temple, into the grass and pond below.

What do we know about this archmage? Does the name ring any bells? His specialty seems to be water based spells.

Have a closer look at the fountain.

Speak with the fairies. Begin with formally introducing yourself. Ask them about their problems with other humans before and assure them that you mean no harm to them.

Identify the liquid. If it's water, take a drink.

I’m not sure how the faries would react to that though, it’d be polite to ask first

Also, the water seems to make horror cratures out of mushrooms in the forest, so if I were there, I wouldn't realy drink it....

We might get a mutation perk if we do...

We might become Super Mutants if we do

I know i'm repeating myself here but i don't think the tiny slither of a chance we might benefit from drinking random, possibly cursed\enchanted water from the top of a ruin is worth it. You know, cause we might DIE.

We might die if we do.

Try to once again explain ourselves and the situation that we only want advice on the slime vs goblin thing and maybe to stop the evil mushroom plague.

We’re standing in the water.
The water is at our shins.
“You follow the fairy up a winding staircase”
We are on an upper floor.
The base of our feet and the base of the door are level.
The water is above the base of our feet.
The water is above the base of the door.
The floors below aren’t flooded.
Clearly, this is magical water that chooses where it does and does not flow.
This does nothing to further the story, but I figured I’d point it out.

They fear and respect a water mage. Show them all your wind wand and your abilities with it, and try to pass as an air mage.

They might not respect the mage, though. That statue looked human shaped, and they seem to have sworn off humans and possibly corrupted the water.

We should find out why they don't like humans before we associate ourselves, in any way, with any other humans.

Well it did say built to honour, but that’s fair
Krylo 4th May 2018, 3:10 AM edit delete reply
I don't think the faeries made the temple, though. Nothing inside is actually fairy sized. And the statue was destroyed.
1977 4th May 2018, 3:11 AM edit delete reply
The first thing the fairies said was that the temple belongs to the fairy kind NOW, obviously they didn't build it. Who knows how old this thing is, the fairies just moved here recently.

Oh, yeah.
I’m honestly just very curious what the whole groups reaponce to magic that powerful would be. I’d assume a strong enough gust and their gone.

Also if they hate humans so much, maybe we should tell them we represent a group that’s only half made up of humans. There’s us and maybe Lagrand, but Inzo and Valley aren’t.
