Author Notes:

Morgenstern 4th Aug 2018, 3:58 PM edit delete
While Sheila uses the anchor to fish Mangobeard out of the water, you begin to chat up the scylla.

Before you go worshiping anyone, you'd like to know more about her. Like her name, and what scyllas are.

"I am Kori," the scylla proclaims. "I am a monster of the sea, and a goddess of great power!"

You suggest that you have (perhaps accidentally) provided a sacrifice of several kuo-toa already; though, normally, the only thing you'd want to sacrifice is yourself... at the altar of her womanhood.

Hemingway snorts.

Kori squints, a few of her snakes giving each other confused glances. "I... erm... excuse me?"

You're saying that you're down for worshiping her.

If being down involves going down.

Getting down.

Hemingway is barely suppressing his laughter, at this point.

"Inzo is... not sure what Nast is sayings," Inzo mutters behind you. Emerald, who has baaarely started to pick up on the euphemisms, just gives a small sigh and shakes her head.

"I do not follow," the scylla replies. "Clarify, or be smited!"

You're already smited, though.

Well, smitten.

Mangobeard, having been pulled back onto the dock, is now trying to restrain his own chuckling. Inzo, Sheila, and Kori are still lost.

You're saying you wanna be closer to the goddess.

Like, within touching distance.

Of her boobs maybe.

The scylla's face turns a bright red, her eyes wide. "I-- you-- HERE, in front of all these people?! I mean-- I wouldn't even know where to-- how-- the logistics of it-- I've never had someone suggest--"

She stops, puffing her cheeks out as she glares you down. "This is a trick! You are attempting to humiliate me!"

"Not trickses," Inzo confirms, having finally gotten it now that you're spelling it out. "Nast put wiener every where. Might be weird hume thing."

Emerald nods, keeping her head low; she seems a little embarrassed on everyone's behalf. "His tastes are... inscrutable, to put it gently."

"Nothin' wrong with wantin' to try somethin' new," Hemingway says with a grin. "I wouldn't have thought to suggest it now of all times, but... I dunno, the scylla IS rather pretty."

"Aye, t'ain't that odd," agrees Mangobeard. "I've fucked stranger."

As it becomes clear that you're not just messing with her, Kori's face grows even redder. "I cannot believe that you're suggesting-- seriously-- I... not that I'm turning you down, I just--" Her gaze narrows, her fists clenching. "YOUR GODDESS WILL NEED TO CONSIDER THIS FURTHER."

And with that, she disappears back into the water.

The cavern rumbles slightly... and then silence.

Sheila is the first to speak. "Quick thinking...? Good plan."

"Not sure it was," Hemingway chuckles. "Pretty sure 'e just wanted to shag that scylla. Not judgin', just bein' clear here mates."

"Yarr," starts Mangobeard, "'tis not been our finest hour but we can always tell th' story diff'rent if anyone asks."

That worked beautifully. And I guess loot the kuo-toa and move forward through the tunnel.

No yeah we *totally* just wanted to shag the Scylla. It didn't have to be *here and now* of course. We could have gone somewhere private! But ah well. We can tell her that when she comes back, potentially.

Can we leave like... contact information, somehow? For when she comes back. Or a forwarding address. I guess the pirates will be here and can give her directions to us, if she shows up after we've left :P

Might as well loot the kuo-toa now! And make sure to mention that we're *also* interested in pirates.

Edit: Also yeah, some folks last page suggested trying to do some fishing here. I agree, let's loot and fish! And while we fish, we can make like Peter and be a fisher of men ;D and orc ladies.

I know there's some sort of opportunity for a tentacle hentai joke somewhere in this, just saying that now.

Be careful, though. Check if the kuo-toa is actually dead first.
Eyebrows 4th Aug 2018, 5:23 PM edit delete reply
-1 to nailing the pirates. If we're going to though we should go for Hemingway.
ZincFingers 4th Aug 2018, 6:20 PM edit delete reply
Check the dead, loot the dead, fish a bit, chat with the pirates (not necessarily flirt, see how the conversation flows, now that they know a bit more of our flavoured pastime). All good ideas.
If they do ask, let them know we are an equal opportunity philanderer.
YetiOlwen 4th Aug 2018, 11:22 PM edit delete reply
+1 looting & fishing
-1 to note leaving.

I'd rather wait for Kori. Speaking our language is one thing but that doesn't necessarily mean she can read. Unless there's an underwater monster school she attended she might have never gotten the opportunity to learn how to read. That and I just want more face time with her.

But if we do leave a note we should consider mentioning to meet at the beach near the mouth of the cave under the moonlight tonight. Our party could set up the tent, build a bonfire and have a beach luau, while we make waves with Kori.
MakePeaceAndLove 5th Aug 2018, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
Sounds good Twyll. +1 from me, basically for the same reasons ZincFingers gave. Though YetiOlwen made a good point about leaving the note in case our Scylla can't read. I'm all the more in favor of sticking around here for a while, and/or exploring the rest of the tunnel.
Some Random Guy 4th Aug 2018, 4:56 PM edit delete reply
Some Random Guy
Well. That was a thing.

Anyways, let's either pull out a Scaling Knife for Nast, so we can more easily deal with any fish-like enemies, or keep the Wind Wand.

Also, make sure everyone is okay, and ask about Mangobeard's trouble with swimming. If we're not going to get ambushed or anything, might as well strike up a conversation to pass the time as we go deeper into the cave.
YetiOlwen 4th Aug 2018, 5:01 PM edit delete reply
I guess we should ask if everyone wants to chill out and await her return? Maybe do some fishing or swap some pirate/adventure stories, and share a little rum together?
If pirates would rather not stick around but our party wants to be sure to get our anchor back.
Some Random Guy 4th Aug 2018, 5:07 PM edit delete reply

I am split between either waiting for the Scylla or going onwards, but bonding between our two groups would be a rather nice thing to do right now.

Rum sounds lovely as of now. If we have enough alcohol on us, let's crack a cold one with the boys to celebrate the fact that the giant snake is not as dangerous as originally thought, then carry on with either staying or leaving.

Also, Mangobeard mentioned he was legendary when he was originally introducing himself. "I be the legendary Mangobeard." If he is, it would be a nice idea to ask him about some of the adventures he has had with his own crew. +1 to that.
ZincFingers 4th Aug 2018, 7:45 PM edit delete reply
It would be nice to know what makes Mangobeard so legendary, other than his prolific amount of curse inducing behaviour.

+1 to staying here, fishing, and swapping stories. I want to know more about the pirates, and Nast has a lot of stories to share, most of them pretty embarassing.
Eyebrows 4th Aug 2018, 5:06 PM edit delete reply
Get that anchor back right this second. I like the pirates but do not trust them.
ZincFingers 4th Aug 2018, 6:15 PM edit delete reply
Don’t demand it back, just politely ask, if we think another huge fight is coming up we can always re-trade, but for now we would like our heirloom.
Gandalf 5th Aug 2018, 2:11 AM edit delete reply
+1 to asking nicely. I'm pretty sure the pirates will turn put to be OK, but the anchor is a real one-off.

Considering the effects of the readers' choices on Nast's actions, asking politely is both nicer AND in character.

+1 on being polite.
Sanityfaerie 4th Aug 2018, 8:59 PM edit delete reply
Oh yeah. +1 on this. WE handed back the air bottle in order to save the guy. Time to get back the anchor *now*. But sure. Ask politely. No need to be impolite... and if there is a sudden need to be impolite, we have paralyze-tentacles in easy reach of basically all of them.
ZincFingers 5th Aug 2018, 12:16 AM edit delete reply
“Handed” being a polite way of saying “Threw to your drowning captain in order to save his life”.
GS 5th Aug 2018, 6:12 AM edit delete reply
+1 to getting the anchor back asap! We went through too much and it's too important to let a bunch of seafaring brigands nick it.
MakePeaceAndLove 5th Aug 2018, 10:35 PM edit delete reply
+1 to asking politely. Also, we offered it for the battle and that battle is over, and already returned the air bottle to Mangobeard. It all fits together.
pwzysk 4th Aug 2018, 5:11 PM edit delete reply
Since we're going to loot them anyway, we may as well use a scaling knife to get the scales off the Kuo-Toa; I imagine those might be worth something. We also need to decide, once we've got it, how we're going to divide the loot up. The pirates have to get some, it's only fair since they were a big help.
MakePeaceAndLove 5th Aug 2018, 10:37 PM edit delete reply
+1 to this. And I suppose we can talk it out in character, next update everyone voices their concerns regarding what loot they want. They can throw everything onto a big pile and everyone gets a pick. They can pull straws or play rock paper scissors to decide who chooses first, and so on. XD

Emmy and Inzo could grab stuff they're interested in, too, Inzo for his inventions, though I'm not sure if Emmy will be interested in any of this.

Use bandit bandanna on the dead. The Lore does not say anything about the “target” needing to be alive. If it works, keep taking till their inventory is empty. -If I am forgetting past knowledge, be gentle. ;-)
MakePeaceAndLove 5th Aug 2018, 10:42 PM edit delete reply
If I understand how Steal works, and it grabs a random item from the target's inventory, then dead targets don't protect their inventories and we can just normally loot them. In other words, Steal won't give us any item we wouldn't obtain by simply searching and emptying their pockets.

Unless... one of these Kuo-Toa hid something up a certain orifice. In that case Stealing it seems like a much easier way of retrieving it than digging for it the old-fashioned way. >.>
Croaker 4th Aug 2018, 5:26 PM edit delete reply
Position Emerald to stun the pirates if they try anything.
Guest 4th Aug 2018, 5:37 PM edit delete reply
How about some underwater skinny dipping with the air bottle? That might be less intimidating for the scylla. Inzo and Emmy can keep an eye on the pirates.
YetiOlwen 4th Aug 2018, 5:43 PM edit delete reply
What we really need to do is set the scene. Set up a table with some crates, or the dead kuo-toa if we get desperate, pour a glass of rum and set up some plates of cooked meat and/or our unimpressive trout. Set up the phantom candles and maybe wear our bunny outfit. On the off chance, see if one of the pirates happens to have a saxophone on them, if yes get them to play Careless Whisper. This lady deserves a wine and dine romantic dinner.

I'm giving this comment a +1 primarily out of the thought you put into it, and because I want to see what would happen when this date actually commences.
YetiOlwen 4th Aug 2018, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
Although I do stand by my romantic candle lit dinner, we don't have to come off that strongly. Kori got really shy and flustered, she's probably a really sweet and lonely lady who just doesn't know how friends work. She used to people screaming and running away or getting ready to fight her as soon as they see her. Her real goal of getting worshippers may have just been an attempt at getting someone to just talk to. Depending on her actual mood when she gets back we should make it clear that while we would really love to share her sea bed, things don't have to move that quickly (or publically). We can start off as just friends.

Edit: Point out that we see her as a beautiful woman, not as just another monster.
JiggilyJoe 5th Aug 2018, 4:16 AM edit delete reply
+1 to Yetis second comment here. She is probably doing all this for attention. She could be a great ally in future water based adventures.

+1 from me. The power of seeing unique individuals in those we meet and not just random monsters is what gives Nast his peaceful character...

... notwithstanding those times when we commit bloody murder, but hey, sometimes they're asking for it.
Krylo 4th Aug 2018, 6:09 PM edit delete reply
We should make sure that was the serpent they were talking about first of all. There may be more deeper and when only her serpent was out it did seem smallish.

You did a great job capturing the essence of the comments from the last page, the wording of the 'charming' had me laughing and realizing just how much you style Nast (and by extension, the whole comic) after what we all say, and made me think about all the work you must do reading all of them, and thinking of a way to distill the combination of all of them into the next page. +1 to you.

Remember to Reinforce the support column, bridge, and/or tunnel. We want to use this tunnel to access the Threeroads underground tunnels.

So I am up with spending some socializing time with the pirates, getting info, drinking rum, getting the anchor back, and doing some fishing. Update the log for the other party members.

Loot the bodies, get the injector and any remaining potion, divide treasure, and take the kua-toa bodies possible.

When ready, let's press on through the tunnel towards Threeroads.

Wow. That was worth the wait, beautiful dialogue that truly illustrates Kori as a delightful character. I can't help but be hopeful about her future involvement (and the pirates' involvement with the story of course).

On current events:
I agree with concerns about verifying that was the "serpent" the pirates mentioned, with getting back the anchor if no more enemies appear, with sticking around in the cave for a bit in case Kori returns with a decision quickly, with potentially turning said sticking around into a party (if the pirates are amenable), with doing some fishing in this rather unusual cave, with using Kuo-toa bits as fishing bait (if it is not disrespectful to the dead), with Nast doing some diving in the water with the air bottle to look for look or do some investigating with Inzo (though that could leave Emerald alone with the pirates), with getting some stories about sailing out of the pirates, and with "cleaning" up the area with an eye for any goodies.

As to the logistics involved with getting entangled with Kori, that will most certainly be up to her to decide initially, particularly since it seems to be out of her comfort zone. If she returned and Nast happened to be entangled with someone else, she might be a tad upset; she is dangerous enough that letting down Nast's guard too much could be rather unhealthy, especially if Nast happens to trample on that maiden's feelings after that intimate overture. That's probably enough on Kori for now.
As to the tunnels to Threeroads, Nast might manage to meet up with the other party if he headed down it (though Morgenstern would probably have an intermission first). If the cave and tunnels are not too big to reinforce, casting Reinforce upon them would not be a terrible idea.
Inzo needs to test his new mech's water abilities some more. It is a submersible after all.
Whenever the party next has a quiet, private moment, Emerald will be sure to bring up those strange slimes below Threeroads and add to Nast's quest list.
I think that covers everything for now.
ZincFingers 5th Aug 2018, 8:31 PM edit delete reply
Oh, yes, the slimes below Threeroads, we are either looking at an ally / new citizens for Emmy, OR, a new slime power for Emmy if we find one suitable for consumption.
