Use the wind wand
<<First Latest>>

Author Notes:

Morgenstern 23rd Jul 2018, 6:20 PM edit delete
You hurriedly use your wind wand to create a tornado, stemming from the water beneath the bridge. It creates a... well, not a sacred stir, as barring any odd properties you're not aware of the water should be pretty normal. It does manifest a swirling vortex of water, though, which helps hold the weird fungus in place--and more importantly, obscures its vision.

Meanwhile, the tingly toads have started bouncing themselves at Emerald, who has began secreting her paralyzing chemical. ...Resulting in a full blown stalemate. The impact of the toads paralyzes Emmy, but slamming into her paralyzes them, in turn. By the time you spin around to face them, both parties are just... shocked, and stuck in place.

The toads being paralyzed mitigates their most powerful weapon, though, which is their speed. You lean past Emerald and hurl a wide wind slicer, taking all three toads out at once.

A... most unfortunate noise begins to rise up from the vortex-trapped fungus, something like an energy building up. You turn around, just in time for--

Frog!Inzo, who has begun to bounce angrily around in his crab dome, to propel himself straight at one of the mech's levers. With a mighty kick, he baaarely manages to nudge it... just enough for the crab to open one of its claws.

There's a great flash of light from inside the vortex, as the mushroom monster attempts... something

but its efforts are cut short by a blast of large bubbles, which give thunderous noises as they burst. The fungus just hardly manages to fire off a couple of... weird... light waves, which hit nothing in particular before the bombardment of bubbles (combined with the damage from the vortex) takes it out.

You can't say with certainty, but you're pretty sure it was about to start firing those light blasts from all of its eyes.

With the toads and fungus defeated, you take a second to breathe... and ask Inzo if he's okay.

The frog croaks. Angrily.

"Surely it must be limited by time...?," Emmy suggests, though she doesn't sound very sure at all.

The goblin-turned-frog wiggles his little frog arms. On closer inspection--though the tint of the glass--he doesn't have exactly the same color as the tingly toads did; you don't believe they were anything but tingly toads. That they associated with a monster that frogs people is... maybe a coincidence? Maybe a biodiversity ecocycle foodchain kind of thing? You don't know enough about toads or wave blasting, frog-magic-using fungi to say.

Inzo does not seem to be changing back, though.

1. Harvest tingly toads and have Emmy try to eat them to combine her paralyzing poison with their's since she last upgraded after eating blob fish.
2. Identify fungus and test eyeballs for laser blasting capabilities, maybe with mana from Nast or from Emmy absorbing them
3. Console Inzo, even as a frog he did a wonderful job and we appreciate him.

Well done, team. That could have gone badly, but it didn't.

Collect specimens of frogs and fungus for Ranse while Emmy gives inzo the frog potion.

Once he, hopefully, turns back huddle up and congratulate both he and Emmy on their performance n but suggest that they both stay a bit more calm both in attacking and in reacting to attacks.

Over eagerness and panic can both go badly.

Then continue in.

+1 to this.

Also, if the Frog Potion work, make a plan with Inzo in case the potion is limited, but the fungus effect isn't. He was smart enough to use his mech as a frog, maybe he can guide Nast or Emmy controlling it if he turns back again
ZincFingers 23rd Jul 2018, 7:07 PM edit delete reply
Plan well made, and a good addition to discuss potential re-frog-ification with Inzo. Probably should talk about a course of action should we encounter more mage-fungus.

Addendum: Write a message in the journal for the Threeroads team, have Justice ask some of her friends about Dispel. Would be a huge help if Justice or Nast picked up such an ability
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jul 2018, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
+1 to everything, including writing in the journal. That went better than I'd expected, the stalemate really helped since if those toads jumped past Emmy at Nast, we we've been sooo stuck. >.>

I reeeaally hope the frog potion isn't time-limited... but we've only one way to check, and making a plan B can only help, so, sure.

+1 to grabbing loot.

-1 to giving Inzo the frog potion. Plenty of other effects stack - why do we assume that giving frog potion to a frog would turn it into something else, rather than just making it a frog for longer (or having no effect at all)? I don't think the situation is so urgent to call for uninformed experimentation like this.

Now this room is clear we should (carefully) see what the fungus was guarding. If there are no more threats then see what other loot there might be. If there's something else needs fighting then withdraw and consider our options.
Twyll 23rd Jul 2018, 6:46 PM edit delete reply
Well then. Given that Inzo doesn't use his physical prowess in combat anyways, this shouldn't cripple us *too* hard. Nast can now pilot the mech, and Frog-Inzo can pilot Nast-- maybe by sitting on his head and making motions that mimic what he's supposed to do with the levers, so he can feel them, or sitting on the dashboard pointing.

If it doesn't seem to wear off with time, though, we should probably go see the guy who runs Justice's monastery. Usually these sorts of extra-bad possibly-permanent statuses are removed by powerful clerics.
Krylo 23rd Jul 2018, 6:56 PM edit delete reply
We know via meta comments by Morgenstern that the head cleric is gonna be a large/long/complex quest.

And IC we've no idea where he actually is.

I don't think we should rely on him for something this urgent. Instead, if the frog potion doesn't undo it we should ask Ranse and her dad for an ingredient list to make a cure.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jul 2018, 10:52 PM edit delete reply
I agree with Krylo that Ranse and her dad should be our first choice if we need a better cure.

However, I wouldn't mind going back to the temple, perhaps with our other party, and just, you know, getting that questline started? Then we can work on it step by step as we go elsewhere, and we're already back near the temple, let's get that out of the way (or onto our plate) before we move to other areas.
Caydenite 23rd Jul 2018, 7:08 PM edit delete reply
Emmy should kiss him. Royal kisses have a long history of breaking these sort of curses.
Krylo 23rd Jul 2018, 7:10 PM edit delete reply

Try this before my idea if only to make Emmy and Inzo kiss.

Also this was Lu!dot's idea on the discord because credit where due.

+1 to this, let's tell them to try that before we pull out the frog potion just to make them kiss. Great idea Lu!dot.

Professor Cupcake
Oh god yes. It'll be hilarious, if nothing else. And if it does actually work, then that'll surely help relations between them, right?
Hambone 23rd Jul 2018, 7:14 PM edit delete reply
Clearly, he has to be kissed by a maiden to reverse the spell.
1977 23rd Jul 2018, 7:37 PM edit delete reply
Seems you all want to reverse the frogification with either the Frog Potion or a kiss from Emmy.

We have in our inventory a Cleanse Potion.
Removing status effects is what a Cleanse Potion does.
So I think we should try that.

Loot everything (toads, aquamold, crates) and then carefully forward.
Krylo 23rd Jul 2018, 10:52 PM edit delete reply
I legitimately forgot we had that. I'd still say save it for if nothing else works just on the basis we only have one and it apparently cures everything?
Gandalf 24th Jul 2018, 1:34 AM edit delete reply
But aren't we probably wasting the frog potion by using it based on hope and guesswork? No reason to think it will reverse an existing frog metamorphosis.
Korsha 23rd Jul 2018, 7:53 PM edit delete reply
Oh yeah, might be an idea to try first.
That said, anyone remember any item description for it? If we already know it's limited to poisons or common status effects, we might as well save it
Antarean 23rd Jul 2018, 8:08 PM edit delete reply
Message Ranse via the journal, see if she knows anything about this. Using the cleanse potion is a good idea, but it might not work if "Turned Into a Frog" isn't actually a status effect.

Also, we now have a Lore entry for the Aquamold.
Phyco 23rd Jul 2018, 8:20 PM edit delete reply
You checked the lore for the new monster but didn't think to check the status effect section. Frog is a status effect.
Antarean 23rd Jul 2018, 9:48 PM edit delete reply
I *did* check, and it wasn't there when I wrote that comment.
Phyco 23rd Jul 2018, 8:16 PM edit delete reply
Loot before trying anything else. Maybe the Aquamold or one of those crates had something to reverse this. If not, Inzo can use the cleanse potion(or maybe the frog potion, but we don't actually know it'll cancel the effect).

On an unrelated note, if a thief wore the bandit bandanna would they get a steal+ ability?

Good news!
Frog has been added to status effects, and while nothing is mentioned of duration, Silence specifically states not going away with time, so I assume it would have been the same for Frog if it had unlimited duration

Look through the crates for a cure. Then have Emmy try the royal kiss to see it it works, if it doesn't, then use the cleanse potion. We have it, we need it, use it. We can talk to Ranse or her dad about getting another one later.

Let's move on deeper into the cave.

If inzo doesn't change back could Emmi help pilot the crab mech?
Inzo points to the controls and she operates them. As a slime she won't take up much space and possibly they can learn to work together?
Krylo 24th Jul 2018, 4:18 AM edit delete reply
Sure, but, like. . . what else are we going to use it for?
1977 24th Jul 2018, 4:46 AM edit delete reply
Isn't it obvious?
We find the PantyThief, give him the FrogPotion and then it's time to eat fresh frog legs!
1977 24th Jul 2018, 5:11 AM edit delete reply
Sorry about that.
Just realized that this plan doesn't help us getting free.
New plan:
Step 1: find Pantythief
Step 2: force feed the Frog Potion to him
Step 3: remove his legs
Step 4: find a french cook
Step 5: when the thief has turned back into human force feed him his own frog legs
Step 6: give the thief to the knights

lil Joshu
That's really dark... could we just... not?

How about when we find the panty thief, we just steal her panties and then turn her over?

Save the frog potion so that if the guards catch us and we end up back in prison, we can become smaller and escape through the bars.
ZincFingers 24th Jul 2018, 5:07 PM edit delete reply
Now there is an idea, although it would only work if we had inventory access when in prison, still, worth holding onto the potion for such scenarios.
