Morgenstern 8th Jul 2018, 3:19 PM edit delete
Justice moves closer to the ladder, and yells down at Lagrand and Valley (and Baby Blue Jr) what all she discovered. Or... failed to discover, as she doesn't entirely understand the whole thing.

"I think we may need to put something larger in the forge, if we hope to carry the fire this far!" Justice states.

"So, the zwei then," Lagrand says with half a smirk.

Valley heaves a huge sigh... and nods, before ascending the ladder. Slowly, and painfully.

Once at the top, Valley and Justice return to the forge.

"Is... the light dimmer, or am I imagining that...?," Justice ponders aloud.

Valley shrugs, and shoves the stone zwei through the grate. "Maybe, I dunno."

Once the weapon has caught a bright green flame, Valley withdraws it. The difference this time is noticeable--the glow of the forge has faded substantially, as though the presence of the zwei has drained its energy. Valley and Justice hurry back through the workshop--though, they do get a bit distracted by what ensues.

The stone zwei physically changes before their very eyes. The flames dance and shift, and beneath their heat stone melds and reforms. Cracks seal and weight redistributes.

By the time they get outside, the flames have--as before--died away... and Valley is holding an almost entirely different weapon.

"Whoa," Valley finally remarks. With their attempt to carry the green fire down the ladder defeated, Valley can take a moment to just... look at the redone stone zwei. "Like... there's no way."

"That is... a MUCH larger weapon," Justice says, wide eyed.

"Pshyeah," Valley replies. She gives it a few idle swings, testing it out. "Like, it totally swings better? Even though it's like... huge?"

"Does it have any new powers?," Justice asks.

"I..." Valley stops, eyeing the weapon. She shrugs her shoulders. "I'm totally clueless! Like, I don't know WHAT it does now. I dig the little spikes, though."

Justice smiles. "We may wish to get it identified later... but I'm glad you enjoy the alteration."

Valley continues to play around with the stone zwei+. "We're still totally boned about the fire, though. Like, how're we gonna light those candles...?"

"We may have to resort to lighting them with normal flames," responds Justice. "Each use of the forge has dimmed its glow--I fear that feeding it one more item may empty it completely. We should choose carefully what else we'd like to try it with--if I'm right, we can only upgrade one more stone item."

"So, like... the shield, then?," Valley suggests.

"Maybe," says Justice. "None of us really use shields of that size, do we? ...Though I suppose we'd have no need for a second zwei, either. Forging a shield COULD make it more usable, maybe, or perhaps someone will join us later that enjoys larger shields..."

Justice smiles wider, watching as Valley continues to swing her massive weapon around, fighting at nothing in particular. "You're not even listening, are you?"

"What?," Valley pauses, throwing a glance back at Justice. "Yeah, totally! Shields and junk? Forge a thing. Most definitely."

Can we forget LB's helmet?

You mean BBJ's helmet.

I'm for waiting to forge something else.

Let's wait on forging anything else. We only get one more so we want to make sure it's something good/usable.
MakePeaceAndLove 8th Jul 2018, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
+1, makes sense.

Also I like how the forge turned out to be quite simple and safe, as opposed to what its appearance suggested. Now we can focus on the shrine for the next update.
ZincFingers 8th Jul 2018, 4:06 PM edit delete reply
I'd say we refrain from draining the forge until we have a chance to speak with the spirit, and further assess what items we may wish to improve.

Also, we need to hold onto the rock that Justice first tried to use. It is no longer an ordinary rock, and if we find no use for it, we can keep it as a curio.
MakePeaceAndLove 8th Jul 2018, 10:50 PM edit delete reply
+1, let's talk to the spirit next, and yes let's keep that rock. I'm sure it will prove useful for something, it may have upgraded into, well, a cannonball? That should be useful at some point.
1977 8th Jul 2018, 4:12 PM edit delete reply
And I say it again, look through the Mason's Toolset.
There is probably something to light the candles like flint and steel or even a real lighter.

As for the forge:
shield or gauntlets
1977 8th Jul 2018, 4:20 PM edit delete reply
I should probably add that I'm content with waiting too.
There is no rush with the forge to stick anything in it.
Just wanted to say if we use it again we should decide between shield or gauntlets.
GuyIncognito 8th Jul 2018, 4:17 PM edit delete reply
I'm still going to say we should forge the stone heart. It's valuable right now, imagine how valuable it would be upgraded. Also, I think it's been demonstrated through the story that the forge is not evil, it is simply a magic to be used up. Can't be 100% certain, but I don't think Morgenstern is going to throw us under a bus for upgrading a stone heart in a forge that upgrades stone items.
AnchorRage 8th Jul 2018, 4:23 PM edit delete reply
+1, we should totally upgrade a stone heart. I mean, its not like we have any other stone equipment we can use right? Maybe the spirit will even want it or have some use for it.

Also, could Nast equip the stick-with-improved-rock on it and use it as a staff? Of maybe have Justice use it as a mace? Nast and Ranse should identify it anyway(same as the stone zwei, after this adventure)
1977 8th Jul 2018, 4:24 PM edit delete reply
I think we should speak with the spirit first about that.
If Spirit says it is okay to forge the Stone Heart then yes, otherwise no.
Spirit can probably reignite the forge as well so it makes sense to summon it first.
Krylo 8th Jul 2018, 5:29 PM edit delete reply
I don't wanna upgrade anything else right now, knowing the forge fires are able to be used up.

We should summon and speak to the spirit first, and/or leave the forge for awhile, have Nast and Ranse use identify on it, and do other things to see if there's a way to stoke the flames.

Once the flames are out they may be out for good, but if there's still fire there we might be able to reignite it.
GuyIncognito 8th Jul 2018, 4:21 PM edit delete reply
Second alternative, since I know my "Upgrade the Heart" suggestion isn't popular... leave the forge alone until Inzo builds a stone mech. Then he can upgrade the entire mech in one go. Good bang for the buck.
AnchorRage 8th Jul 2018, 4:25 PM edit delete reply
I was thinking about the stone heart, maybe it will work as some sort of powersource for the forge? So we should hold off until we try to contact the spirit

Winged Crusade
I don’t think anybody’s considering size factor at all as a part of this since everything essentially had to be slipped in through a grate. :S
Guest 8th Jul 2018, 4:24 PM edit delete reply
Would it be possible to bring a candle up from the shrine? We could light it with whatever we put in the forge, and use it to carry a flame to the other candles. As for what we burn, I suggest the gauntlets - the helmet looks cumbersome, and while useful for protecting BBJ, it doesn't have much use when he isn't around. However, if the gauntlets get spikes like the zwei, then combining them with the brawler belt (and possibly the rabbit suit) could make any team member formidable. I'm not opposed to waiting, but we will likely need to burn one last thing to light the candles.
1977 8th Jul 2018, 4:30 PM edit delete reply
It just occured to me, Justice named the first HWE Little Blue and this second HWE is named Baby Blue Jr.
She gives every HWE its own name.
How long do you think she can do that?
How many HWE until she runs out of names?
Guest 8th Jul 2018, 4:48 PM edit delete reply
This is actually the third. She never spoke the second's name aloud, but given the Jr. in this one's name I'm guessing it was Baby Blue.
MakePeaceAndLove 8th Jul 2018, 10:59 PM edit delete reply
I think she can go for a long while, but I am curious what names she'll be giving out.
Korsha 8th Jul 2018, 4:32 PM edit delete reply
Time to light candles the boring way.

Shame about the forge running out of juice. Since the fire doesn't affect wood, I was hoping Inzo could have added stone/ceramic armoring to his golem, then forge it.
Qafud 8th Jul 2018, 4:43 PM edit delete reply
We could try ordinary fire or we could chance using the phantom candle.
JiggilyJoe 8th Jul 2018, 5:32 PM edit delete reply
Ok, not sure what will happen with the shrine, but I think we need to use the forge now. We are here now, and if we don't use it now, there's no telling what could happen to its last use.
As for the item. Can Justice use the shield? If not do the gauntlets. Valley is our tank and can use those the most.
Then use our fancy blue flame candles to light the ones downstairs.
G. Sansa 8th Jul 2018, 6:00 PM edit delete reply
-1 on using phantom candles. Those are for necromantic purposes, which I'd guess is something that will come up later, if there's non-evil necromancy in this world, which seems likely given that Gramps wasn't particularly/obviously evil. Also, aside from saving the candles, we don't want to tilt the spirit encounter towards necromancy.
Greenkind 8th Jul 2018, 5:33 PM edit delete reply
Since the forge-flame only seems to enhance stone objects, isn't there the potential that it wouldn't even light the candles anyway? Unless I missed/forget they were alreadylit by a green flame - It could just be that the flame shows the remaining fuel for the forging, and it's actually not a direct link with the candles.
Iago 8th Jul 2018, 5:36 PM edit delete reply
So, shield is big even for a mech. Forge could help, but Justice is right, we don't really have a good user for it as is. Still, a shield's always good to have.

Gauntlets are a bit heavy for most people, but probably less so. Plus we have the belt, which might allow more people to use them. Not guaranteed either. Still interesting.

Helmet is another one. Again, heavy as fuck. Likely to look cool afterwards. But who could use it without exhausting themselves ?
The easiest, but I'm not fond of it.

Is there anything else ?

Stone Heart is a fascinating idea. I like it. It won't even spontaneously generate an übergolem. Probably. Maybe.
The possibilities!

That would be my choice.
If not, we could always leave the forge for a later use, (I worry it will go out once whatever happens with the spirit is done).

As for the forge fire : we could always just try to light a phantom candle in it.
It might be weird enough to catch fire. And the spirit might like it. Or hate it I guess. A bit of a gamble, but something should happen.
G. Sansa 8th Jul 2018, 5:50 PM edit delete reply
I think it should be something for someone besides Valley. That means helmet (for the Blues) or stone heart (for puppeteer??).

Stone heart is highly unpredictable. It might use up the magic and charge up the flames, which is NOT a good outcome (heart is better than flames). It might turn into a boss, which would be bad. But I think that the chances are fairly good that it would just be an upgrade, which is totally worth it. Perhaps it would make the eventual golem fully sentient, and that would be great. (Even though then of course consent would be an issue, which kinda defeats the original Pygmalion purpose, but that's totally worth it.)

So I'd vote for SH, but if not, helmet. Saving it for later would be, in Valley's words, "totally lame".

(Other possibilities to consider: the mason's hammer for Justice; the sharp coral for Emmy to hold inside herself and use as a claw.)
G. Sansa 8th Jul 2018, 5:56 PM edit delete reply
Whatever we choose, we do it, then use regular flame for the shrine. And if the spirit gets mad that we used up the forgefire, we take the quest to get rekindling ingredients, whatever those are.

Without genre savviness, I'd say that lighting the shrine after using up the forge would be too dangerous. But in this genre, there are things that are good and bad ideas, but there are no instadeath quest hooks, there's usually a chance to back out at least. So I think it's worth the risk.
Tanaar 8th Jul 2018, 6:24 PM edit delete reply
Gauntlets most definitely. I imagine Inzo could incorporate them into the mech most effectively.
G. Sansa 8th Jul 2018, 6:50 PM edit delete reply
For now, Valley should totally equip the zwei. We gotta see what it does in combat.

For the longer term, we should see if Inzo's mech can use either of the + weapons. Seems a shame that our two best weapons have just one wielder between them. I wonder if there's a "wind wand+" or "pyrespewer+" quest.

Oh... I guess the anthill might serve as the latter. But we're not ready for that one yet.

I'd say wait until after Inzo has made a stone mech and forge that.
Cptn_Nerdrage 8th Jul 2018, 8:18 PM edit delete reply
+1 to waiting on forging something else.
But, if we do forge something, +1 to forging the stone heart
Crazy Eights 8th Jul 2018, 10:25 PM edit delete reply
Thinking ahead, what is the possibility that this spirit is possibly at a loss without the stonemason (assuming he is dead) maybe leave some thinking room for potentially clearing out the mines in humblestart and offering the spirit a new place to set up and possibly serving us the potential for our own forge. I know it's a long shot but just as a thought depending on what happens here.
TGWMoC 9th Jul 2018, 4:54 AM edit delete reply
I say wait and check back later, maybe even weeks or months later, to see if the forge has "recharged". Could be if we upgrade something else now, we lose the forge permanently, but if we wait, we could keep using it again and again.
