"...That pick DOES strongly resemble the open indentation on the plate outside," Lagrand mutters after a pause. "Though I have my concerns about simply taking it."

"We have reinforced vines, still," Justice suggests. "We could try to lasso it! That way, we can pull it from a safe distance."

Lagrand taps his chin. "It may be less effort for me to cast Brambling Hand. All of my spells are highly cost efficient, so it's no issue for me to--"

Valley, with a small sigh, wanders right up and pulls the pick right out of the furnace.

"...Oh!," Justice exclaims. "Well, that settles that, then."

"Like, sometimes?," Valley begins, "you just gotta like... go for it."

Lagrand clicks his tongue against his teeth. "If that furnace had been a golem, lurking beneath a clever ruse--"

"But it toootally wasn't," Valley interrupts, giving a huge shrug. She's already on her way out the door. "Like, it's cool to be careful? But we're adventurers! We do gotta live a little, too."

Stepping outside, Valley inserts the pick into the stone plate by the front door. After a moment, and a short series of whirring sounds... the plate drops off, revealing a ladder downward.

"With all due respect," Lagrand starts, "I feel the need to ask--how confident are you that you can fit through there?"

Valley smirks a little. "I think I can like... manage? Maybe? Like, climbing the ladder worries me more than the hole does."

Justice and her elemental follow out shortly. "I took a closer look at the furnace," she says, "but I don't really feel any evil presence from it."

"Is that, like... a thing you can do?," Valley asks. "Sense demons and junk?"

"I... don't actually know," Justice admits sheepishly. "I've never encountered a demon, personally. It sounds like something I'd be able to do, though."

Lagrand sighs, and Valley giggles, giving another big shrug. "Totally? Like, I would think so, right?"

Sometimes things are easier than expected.
I guess we have to wait until we encounter a real demon to see if Justice has the Detect Evil ability or not.

Down the ladder it goes!
Since the plate simply dropped to the ground we should retrieve the hammer and pick before going down.

+1 this is the post I would have made.

As an aside, I really enjoyed Lagrand and Justice being the voices of all the paranoid readers and Valley being sensible.

That's pretty good writing, Morgenstern.

+1 Agreed. You would think we were running a first edition D&D campaign with how scared and cautious everyone is!

It worked out for her this time but I'd have thought someone wou literally almost gou her skull crushed would be a little more careful.

+1, just as Krylo said, I appreciated this post for Lagrand and Justice thinking of safe ways while Valley just grabs and takes it out. There will always be some people overthinking things and as part of that crowd I believe we deserved this. XD

And now, down the ladder we go.
K3001 6th Jul 2018, 4:31 PM edit delete reply
Take the tools out of the plate, don't leave them there. And, yeah, someone agile should descend first to see if it's safe. Just in case the ladder is not reassuring, tie the vine around the first adventurer to go down there and around something steady or heavy.

+1 to all of this, good thinking.

Get LB in the helmet, then climb down. Lagrand, Valley, LB, Justice.

Have Valley eat the tuna first? We can fish for more later, I think we should use it. Challenges usually go up in difficulty and this is the kind of thing where a boss fight is next.

I agree with the order of people.
As for the fish, I'd save it until we know we are about to fight, (just have Justice and Lagrand run distraction for however long it takes to eat a fish). She is at full health now, so eating it would just be a waste of regen time.
Caydenite 6th Jul 2018, 5:43 PM edit delete reply
Nah, Valley, Justice, Lagrand. Tank first, for obvious reasons, Healer in the middle for easy access to both, Lagrand in the back because all there attacks are ranged. LB wherever, first maybe? Expendable little thing.
Also, -1 on the fish. Why start the clock on regen when there might be no combat for a while?
Vilem 6th Jul 2018, 8:07 PM edit delete reply
Get the stone helmet and update journal before decending.
Order on ladder: Elemental, Valley, Justice, Lagrange
MakePeaceAndLove 7th Jul 2018, 12:36 AM edit delete reply
Don't eat that fish now, save it for later, when we actually need it.

Also, tank first is normally sensible but I would send Lagrand ahead first, as the scout before the tank. If there's anything down there Valley would have to face it head on while Lagrand can cast his spells or retreat faster than she could climb back up that ladder... but in that case, yeah Little Blue should go first to scout anyway.

Something I've noticed: the lore page for the stone gauntlets says that they are heavy. If we were to give Valley the Belt of the Brawler, which grants efficiency with fist weapons, perhaps she could utilize the stone gauntlets, seeing as she is immensely strong and could possibly wear them.

However, Emerald Scholar still has the Belt of the Brawler.
MakePeaceAndLove 7th Jul 2018, 12:37 AM edit delete reply
It's quite possible. We can let Valley practice some with the gauntlets and belt the next time our party reunites.

To bad we can't ask for the bunny costume before going down, I would love to see Valley or Justice wearing it. ;)

Also, maybe jot a quick note in the journal before going down...

+1 to journal entry. But be sneaky about it. We don't wan't to tempt Morgenstern into making this a rescue-the-lost-half-of-the-party-quest..

+1 to the journal entry. Also, for now Nast is wearing the bunny suit, we can't just have another party member use the inventory system to remotely strip him... as funny as that would be.
