As quietly as he can, Lagrand conjures up a few wooden spears... and launches them straight for the core of the large golem.

Just as the spears start to fly, the golem turns. In an instant, the bigger of its two arms breaks apart, the individual stones reforming into what looks like a huge shield. It blocks Lagrand's attacks, the wooden javelins splintering and breaking on impact with the solid rock.

"Oh, damn! No way!," Valley blurts out.

The golem, it seems, was not as unaware as it appeared--likely able to perceive out of more than just its visible 'eye.' It begins to march forward, taking massive steps and walking far faster than one would anticipate. It points its smaller arm forward, firing off sharp rocks at a VERY high speed; Valley pushes herself in front of the rest of the party, throwing up an arm to try and defend them (and herself). It's not much of a defense, however, and each rocketed stone hits her hard.

The entire time it's firing, the golem is closing the distance; Justice's elemental unleashes a jet spray of water, but it can't get past the makeshift stone shield. The monster is crossing the small room swiftly, closing in on the group in short order.

Valley needs to dive under and behind him to get in a flanking position. Legrand bramble hand. Every one go for the core!

-1 to sand shark here. The Party info says “May be easier on weaker floors or natural ground”. The floor is solid stone. Best to leave blue in the helmet and lure him outside. The valley can sand shark and get him from behind with blue.

Actually, +1 to retreating, but grab a better hammer for Justice on the way out. If like the skeletons it doesn't follow, we can still heal Valley and get the tall shield ready (held by Justice and Lagrand, so they're both covered and L has one hand free for brambles) before returning. If it does follow, much better outside where V's specials work.
MakePeaceAndLove 4th Jul 2018, 9:19 AM edit delete reply
+1 to retreating. I'm guessing that this one will follow us, then we can surround it once outside.
ZincFingers 4th Jul 2018, 3:32 AM edit delete reply
Valley should Sand Shark behind him, whilst Lagrand ensnares its legs. Have the Elemental try to soak the ground it is standing on. Topple the bastard.

Have Justice get ready to heal Lagrand once Valley leaves him open.

Admittedly I forgot Justice had a reinforced shield, so maybe she can act as a guard for Lagrand. I still think we need to flank...

Worse come to worse... we use the bomb?

-1 to Sand Sharking, (or Earthbreaker for that matter) because we're inside a building, and we especially don't want to risk breaking anything in this workshop.
Or triggering anything, either.
ZincFingers 4th Jul 2018, 8:05 AM edit delete reply
Okay... if Sand Shark is unviable...
Throw the anchor into the roof and use the chain to swing over the golems head.
It may lack the surprise value of Sand Shark, but it still results in a flank.
MakePeaceAndLove 4th Jul 2018, 9:20 AM edit delete reply
-1 because I don't want Valley to move and expose the rest of our party.

But any plan where she still tanks works for me.
ZincFingers 4th Jul 2018, 7:26 PM edit delete reply
I can understand your concerns, but I honestly don’t think it’ll follow us outside, and flanking is the only way I can see us coming out on top.

Guess it’s in the hands of the gods now.
tentechoes 4th Jul 2018, 3:37 AM edit delete reply
can the water elemental become really liquid and try to soak or trap the golem in water? let's heal Lagrand so that he doesn't get exhausted quickly.
G. Sansa 4th Jul 2018, 4:49 AM edit delete reply
We need cover. Justice has her shield (and several backups if it breaks; I think she should be support so maybe use 2 shields for now?)

Little Blue, get inside the helmet.

For Lagrand, Valley should plant the stone shield in the ground and he should take cover behind it while brambling the legs.

Valley herself can tank it for now as she sand sharks to the other side.
G. Sansa 4th Jul 2018, 4:52 AM edit delete reply
When Valley gets to the other side, throw the tent across the rock pile to deny or as a source of regen.

+1 to needing cover and everyone defending themselves.

However, -1 to Valley sand-sharking. Besides using it indoors, as others pointed out, Valley would abandon her position and leave the others vulnerable this way. Let's not break up our defense so soon after hastily assembling it, shall we?

I don’t think we have anything with which to light it, and it’s best saved as a last resort in case we find an even bigger golem... but if we can find a way to light it, and if all else fails, go ahead.
Caydenite 4th Jul 2018, 10:34 AM edit delete reply
-1 we don't want to damage this workshop, we might need it.
GS 4th Jul 2018, 6:26 AM edit delete reply
Have Valley use Earth breaker!
If this tears up the floor, have Little Blue turn it to mud to slow down the golem.
Then Lagrand brambles its legs together to trip it, and everyone piles on.
Korsha 4th Jul 2018, 7:44 AM edit delete reply
Retreat out of the room. Valley has no abilities on a solid stone floor. If Lagrand is fast, he can get out and hide as a tree or bush, so the party can flank the golem if it follows outside. Little Blue should hide in the helmet for same reason.
MakePeaceAndLove 4th Jul 2018, 9:23 AM edit delete reply
Finally a plan I can +1. Retreat and flank/surround the golem. Don't bother hiding though, just spread out so it can't pursue everyone at once but needs to choose a target and/or defend itself from multiple directions.

Elaborate offensive defense action plan:
1. Make like a treeand gtfo
2. Valley scoop up helmet
3. Lagrand should first out he sets up either left or right and makes like a tree litterally
4. Valley on way out set down helmet and attach anchor with chain slack as she moves out to opp side of tree lagrand
5. Justice distract and defend with shield taking position either near valley or lagrand
6.if golem follows, as he exits door pull the ol' trip wire trick by brinin anchor chain up tight and fast
7.if opening present LB fire water at will
8 if plan goes awol attention should be on valley so shield up meanwhile lagrand gets a second chance to trip up or engage with bramble hand to legs or arms/valley ready to shark it pending an opening
G. Sansa 4th Jul 2018, 8:39 AM edit delete reply
Agree on all. But we also need a plan if golem doesn't follow. In that case, first heal, then Justice and Lagrand hide behind tallshield, Little Blue in helmet, while Valley does an anchor swing to flank.
MakePeaceAndLove 4th Jul 2018, 9:30 AM edit delete reply
Since the others view the situation their own way, let me just put a short plan that fits my view of their situation succintly.

Everybody step outside. Spread out on both sides of the doorframe. Then attack the golem once it follows.

If for whatever reason it doesn't follow immediately, let Justice heal Valley and let Lagrand disguise himself as a try. If it still doesn't approach, have Little Blue stand before the entrance (where he can be seen) and shoot a jet of water at the golem to catch its attention.

That's basically it. Anything beyond that we'll have to improvise further once we see how it responds.
Eyebrows 4th Jul 2018, 9:50 AM edit delete reply
Lagrand, make as many brambles as possible and try to get into the golem's cracks.
Valley, attack the golem while it's distracted.
Justice, heal Valley.
Caydenite 4th Jul 2018, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
What ever we do, retreat or attack, Justice needs to Heal Valley ASAP.
ZincFingers 4th Jul 2018, 7:11 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.
Antarean 4th Jul 2018, 10:07 AM edit delete reply
So it probably *did* hear the commotion outside. If it's able to bait us into attacking it when its back is turned, it suggests it might be more intelligent than the others.

Justice should heal Valley. If we're retreating to draw the golem outside into the open, and that seems to be the general consensus at this point, then everyone can just back out the door and Valley can keep blocking with Justice healing her. If we're just backing away though, Valley should equip the stone shield so she has some better defence, and then switch back to wielding a weapon with two hands when we get outside. (And you never know, maybe *this* one would recognize the shield, maybe that's where it got the idea for using one itself.) Once and if we get it outside then we'll have more space for attacking it and flanking it.

My biggest issue with the retreat-and-draw-it-outside strategy is that the golem might not let us; it's advancing on us pretty quickly and it might be in grappling range before we can get outside. Again, the stone shield would be useful since the golem would have to get around that to get at Valley. If it does get that close, it might be a good idea for Valley to try and grab its "shield" and wrench its arm out of the way so that the rest of the party has a shot at the core. And hopefully this would turn it and/or divide its attention so it doesn't shoot Lagrand and Justice in the split second opening.
Guest 4th Jul 2018, 10:19 AM edit delete reply
+1 to everyone saying that we should get outside. Valley is much more dangerous in an open space, where she can use her specials and swing the anchor on its chain. Our best shot might be to do just that and hit the thing with enough blunt force to expose the core so lagrand can destroy it.
