You bring out your wand, and begin to whip up a tornado centered on the card-carrying rabbit.

Almost simultaneously, all four rabbits launch themselves into the air--dust kicking off as they all just... disappear.

The rabbits are fast. Ridiculously fast, their motions barely a blur as they bounce around the forest, leaping off the sides of trees, zipping around in erratic paths around your party. You, Ranse, and Emerald all struggle just to keep up with where the rabbits are...

until they start attacking.

Flying dropkicks seem to come out of nowhere, the rabbits blasting their entire weight into both legs and nailing you across the face and into your gut, only to launch off of you to throw themselves at Ranse and the King Slime.

Ranse and Emerald, likewise, are bombarded by kick after kick. The kicks don't hit that hard, but they're fast and frequent, just an absolute blitz of attacks.

Ranse yells angrily (and incoherently), randomly firing off with her pyrespewer--and at one point unloading into the tornado you made, forming a Pyrestorm.

Emerald shifts an arm into a tentacle and begins to whip it about, but can't seem to catch any of the very speedy rabbits. You, similarly, have some difficulty spying one long enough to hit it with a wind slicer, or tag one with poison.

You seem to be on the losing end of the fight, until Emerald turns her arm into more, larger tentacles. It clearly saps some of her base weight, her density shifting into the new limbs--they swing wide and wildly, and the King Slime visibly fights not to tip over with the force behind her extra appendages.

...However, the sheer amount of space her tentacles are occupying makes it difficult for the rabbits to kick her safely. One furry blur comes flying in, but just baaarely skims across one of the flailing tentacles... and is immediately paralyzed. It soars right past the slime, bounces off the ground, and rolls near to Ranse.

Ranse who, having thoroughly lost her patience with this fight about five kicks ago, immediately punts the paralyzed rabbit into your combined pyrestorm.

Ranse also seems to catch onto the strategy--and instead of trying to actually spot the rabbits as they leap by, begins to just brazenly unload jets of flame in every conceivable direction, spinning around and burning the air. One of the rabbits comes flying at her... and instead launches itself straight through the flames, almost colliding with another rabbit as it loses control of its momentum.

The flaming rabbit hits the ground and, with a very small burst of wind, you launch it straight into the swirling column of flames that consumed the first rabbit.

That only leaves two--one regular bunny... and the one with the top hat, who has been surprisingly inactive for most of the fight.

The one hatless bunny continues its blitz of dropkicks, seeming a little more cautious than its predecessors--and mostly targeting you, instead of the huge mass of paralyzing tentacles, or the young woman shooting fire everywhere. You hold up your shield and do your best to defend yourself, but you can still hardly keep up with the speed of these bunnies.

Meanwhile, Ranse and Emerald Scholar deal with a very different threat. A card comes soaring out of nowhere, so fast that the only evidence of its passing is the sudden gash that forms in Emerald's torso. Dots of slime go flying, the attack appearing to stun her for a moment--but more of her mass quickly shifts into place to fill in the hole.

Another card slashes the bare skin of one of Ranse's legs, another ALMOST hitting her but getting burnt up and thrown from its course by a stray blast of her pyrespewer.

You... briefly catch a glimpse of the rabbit in the hat. It moves in a blur, practically disappearing like the others... only stopping to hurl a card before it resumes its fast paced movement. The fact that it's keeping its distance, throwing sharp cards from a range, makes it that much harder to pin down.

Emmy: Harden and turtle up.

Nast: Make another Tornado to cover an area near the other.

Ranse and Nast: stand back to back between the tornados, blocking one way with shield and the other with fire.

Emmy: if hardening up isn't enough defense, slip between Nast and Ranse and provide tentacle support to their defense.

Get our backs up against trees to limit the directions from which they can attack, preferably in such a way that the Pyrostorm also denies the rabbits choices.

Have Emerald smooth her body flat and cover as much of the ground as possible, paralyze the rabbits as soon as they make contact, proceed to engulf.

Edit: wait until we feel a kick, use skin to skin contact to steal.

Use cloth (the enchantery or purple robe) as nets, the same way Emerald is using her tentacles, to do volume denial. If we get a clear shot at Tophat, first priority is knocking off the tophat. Ask Ranse if she smells any magic items.

Wind wall. If PF taught me anything ...

By which I mean : form a tall ring of wind around us three, blocking light projectiles like them cards. Try to include as few trees as possible. Force the top hat in close quarters. Limit his movement.
Once he's in that makeshift "arena" dealing with him (and the other remaining one) should be much easier. We might even end up in a position to ask for their surrender.
Or he pulls a knife and things go horribly wrong.
Whichever.

We really need to figure out a way to do a wind wall, for this and similar battles. Let's try and improvise that effect, it would really turn this battle around.

Sounds like basically creating a tornado around ourselves only bigger so that we can safely stand in the eye of the storm.

Can we somehow combo the whirlwind with Emmy? If we spin her with tentacles stretched out she would be very hard to avoid. Or going one further she could extend her tentacles up and over both Ranse and ourselves we could create a revolving cylinder.

Yeah, as you can see just making more consectacles she is already struggling to maintain her body composition, if she stretches too far they could fall apart, particularly if those sharp cards can actually cut up her consectacles once they're stretched thin enough.

And a cylinder could still miss, I prefer the idea mentioned above, with covering the ground and counting on the bunnies landing at one point.

I think creating a tornado at a slime would be a quick way to kill them.
They get consumed and splattered all over.
Good thing Emmy is at the other side of the battlefield right now so she can't get suckked into the Pyrestorm.
With her in the party we must be careful about using tornados, fire and other attacks that could accidentally harm her.

Unless the rabbit is picking up his cards after he throws them, which with his speed it is entirely possible, he will eventually run out and either flee or come into range. However, if he has a few more packs of cards, that could take too long.

In terms of diminishing the threat of the card-throwing, there are a few options. First, Nast really needs to diminish the advantage of their speed (which Ranse and Emerald Scholar handled by increasing the volume of their attacks). If he has enough mana to place a bunch of tornadoes, especially in strategic areas between trees through which either the bunny or the cards will pass, that could interfere with the rabbit attack pattern. The disadvantage is how mana intensive it would be, a major problem for Nast.
Another option is toppling the trees around the party to reduce the rabbit's terrain advantage. This would also consume a good deal of mana, but it could also provide some cover for Nast to hide behind. The rabbit would either have to move further back to other trees, risking a loss to his accuracy or stay at his current distance, relying on upward hops to gain the height necessary to strike from above the fallen trees. However, if the bunny abandons speed, he could use his small size to stealthily attack through leaves and what-not. So, this possibility isn't very good either.
I can see one other option: retreat. Using the cover of the trees, run away. Given how fast the rabbit moves, that isn't likely to work either. If Nast can get out of the woods, it's possible the rabbit might not follow. Additionally, the lack of trees would reduce the rabbit's upward mobility.
If Nast is up to it, he could try predicting the rabbit route; however, since he can't even see it, this could be too difficult.
OH. I forgot about Return. If Nast doesn't get lucky soon, they should use return to retreat to Humblestart or Peace Calling. This rabbit is a bit much to take with this party.

We've barely started to really fight, and have taken this down to 2 enemies and seem to have only taken superficial damage so far. We can win this, and I still want that hat.

Plus we've barely begun to delve into what this party can do.

Yeah we can totally win this.

We need more attacks that target an area instead of high evasion opponents, zone denial and what-not. A wind wall against projectiles would help us force him to close in, or maneuver around it as we pay attention to the edges.

We *could* try creating a wall of flame to pen in the one in the top hat, but even with our burn resist potions I don't want us to inadvertently cause a forest fire.

Maybe try firing off a rapid series of wind slices, like what Ranse is doing with her pyrespewer, maybe even shoot them through the pyrestorm to see if that gives them a flaming effect.

Are we able to move the pyrestorm around any? For either spreading the fire or just herding the bunnies to a certain area.

For the one that's kicking us, would we be able to cast poison before it attacks so that when it makes contact we just have to touch it for a split second for the poison to take effect?

I like the poison idea. If nothing else it'll let us get a better idea of uses for touch spells/effects.

All spells in the enchantment school require the caster to touch the target.

If we can pre-cast Poison and just hold onto it for a moment, then tag the hatless bunny as it hits Nast, it's a possibility. Then we just need to get their leader.

I don't want to burn through all of Nast's mana for this though. Let Emmy and Ranse area deny him, with Ranse spewing pyre in front to defend herself from more cards while Emmy takes the low ground.

Use the Wind Wand to misdirect/scatter any incoming cards, forcing the damn top hat bunny to get to close range combat.

Unrelated to the current page, but if Justice were to keep a supply of holy water on hand could Little Blue absorb some to extend its limited existence?

My grandpa's recipe for making Holy Water: start with normal water, then "boil the hell out of it."

I am having great fun reading along, and enjoying the creation and the community!

The water doesn't need to be holy.
The elemental could absorb every normal watersource, like the ocean if they fight on the coast or water from rivers.
The contact with the elemental should make it holy too.
Maybe it can even grow before a fight if there is enough water near them.

So, next experiment, summon the elemental at the temple, let it consume the water from the fountain, see what rage filled water combined with a Holy Water Elemental can become.
My guess, a very big angry HalfGodElemental. :)

It would take improvising a new use for the Wind Wand, but...

Could Nast thicken the air around slightly? So that when the bunnies fly by, they would leave a trail through the air longer than those visual blurs, and by following that aiming for them would be easier, making it possible to anticipate where they'd land and attack there.

And as ZincFingers suggested above, let Emmy flatten her body and stretch to cover the ground, then catch bunnies as they land in her. Paralyze if possible, but I'm thinking if she can just turn her body into a spiked floor that would also work upon their landing.

What if we use the wind wand to slice through trees and make the leaves start raining down? This could reduce the ability of the cards to fly straight and force top hat to get closer.

Maybe, not sure if the wind slash is right for that, but we can always cut up the branches for those leaves.

If so, we could then set them on fire with Ranse's Pyrespewer, but that could start a forest fire. >.> Sounds risky, but it would seriously obstruct the card projectiles.

I'm not sure about this one either. If the cards can cut the skin and penetrate clean through Emerald, then I don't think they'd be terribly hindered by leaves. Obstructing visibility might be a good idea, but, considering we have the numbers advantage, I don't want to make it too easy for them to retreat if things keep going our way.
