Author Notes:

Morgenstern 23rd Jun 2018, 12:03 AM edit delete
You formally present two cheap romance novels, a kingdom history, a slime biology book, and a stack of pornography to the King Slime.

"Oh! Thank you so much!," she replies, taking the books. "You have been such an asset to this kingdom! That is a large part of why I wish to accompany you--this glorious slime kingdom will not begin its history with a debt upon its shoulders. I will repay your aid by helping to prove your innocence, and absolve you of the crimes you are charged with. You may lead the way--I am at your service."

King Slime, King Slime King Slime has joined your party.

You also ask about the wood elf summoner that was hanging out in here last time.

"She took her leave, frustrated after I declined her request to copulate," King Slime replies. "I've no idea where she scuttled off to."

Well, that leaves the question of parties. You're now at seven people, yourself included... so two even splits won't cover everyone. Inzo did seem pretty busy with... whatever he's doing with those crab parts, though, so that makes this a little easier.

For now, you decide that you, Ranse, and King Slime will form one party. It might be a while before King Slime is comfortable around the others, and you want to see what she's capable of. There's a number of easier goals you could pursue, just to test things out, but right now you're leaning toward hunting the fungus in the forest southwest of Threeroads.

For the second party, you decide on Valley, Lagrand, and Justice. Justice and Valley have had a lot of time to work together, and Lagrand is still your most powerful party member. ...Probably. Even if he only shows hints of it. Between the three of them, you think they should be strong enough to, say... check out the mines north of Peace Calling. Though, with Lagrand knowing the woods and Valley hauling the stone zwei around, they could also start searching for a lead on how to upgrade that weapon--you really feel like there's more to the story of all those stone soldiers, and the archmage Neid.

You should probably try and patch things up between Inzo and King Slime at some point, as well, though you're not sure if he'd be in the mood to take a swing at it just yet.

Krylo 23rd Jun 2018, 12:31 AM edit delete reply
I say send Valley Lagrand and Justice to look for clues on the Zweihander.

None of them seem particularly capable of really picking out good tools or finding ore in the mines, and strong or not, there's not much point in sending people to the mines if we can't benefit from them doing so.
ZincFingers 23rd Jun 2018, 12:42 AM edit delete reply
Agreed. We want Ranse and Inzo at the mines. Send Valley and Co. to the temple to search for Zwei clues. Meanwhile I feel we should go mushroom hunting with Ranse and King Slime.

We should say a parting word to Inzo, let him know that we aren’t siding with the Slime King in this little dispute of theirs, it just seems he could use some time to think, and give him the crab plates.

The King Slime will probably need to see some more of the world outside of her court before we put those two together.
Jex 23rd Jun 2018, 12:51 AM edit delete reply
Theye can bring back some samples and stuff but idk
Twelveseal 23rd Jun 2018, 8:52 AM edit delete reply
Should totally ask if Inzo has anything he'd want us to keep an eye out for in the mines.
TGWMoC 23rd Jun 2018, 1:17 AM edit delete reply
+1 to clue finding.

I do want to see if we can clear out the mountains at some point, to clear the way for Peacecalling to start growing again, but I doubt we're ready.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:03 AM edit delete reply
Yeah +1 to searching for stone zwei clues while we get our potion ingredients.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 7:37 AM edit delete reply
+1. Go for the stein zwei quest, improve Valley's arsenal and see what else shakes out.

Keep in mind they might run into Delmora, if she's investigating the faeries by now.
G. Sansa 23rd Jun 2018, 11:24 AM edit delete reply
I'm still worried about the Zwei quest; I think it's the same as the coffin, and I don't think we're ready.

For B team, I think the submerged cave or Tightsend would be a better quest for now.
Harski 23rd Jun 2018, 1:56 PM edit delete reply
+1 for the ze...
Guest 23rd Jun 2018, 12:55 AM edit delete reply
Give King Slime either the scaling knife or goblin knife so she can stab stuff.
TGWMoC 23rd Jun 2018, 1:23 AM edit delete reply
I say offer her the belt, actually. Ask her if it would help her fight, or if she's already good with just her acid. I figure being proficient in punching, and coating her fists with her Acid Touch would help her have more varity to her attacks, at the very least. If she does want a knife though, I say give her the better one (the scaling knife) and keep the goblin knife for ourselves, as we tend to fight with the wand/shield anyway.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 1:40 AM edit delete reply
I'm with TGWMoC on this.
Give her the Belt of the Brawler if it helps.
Other weapons are hard to use due to her Acid Touch.
Holding a weapon and then producing acid with that hand can't be good for the weapon.
It is probable that she can't use any equipment whatsoever but if she can then it must be acidproof.
ZincFingers 23rd Jun 2018, 1:56 AM edit delete reply
The other option is to give her the bandit bandana, multiple tentacles means multiple theft targets.
Eyebrows 23rd Jun 2018, 2:01 AM edit delete reply
She's probably been practicing not burning things with her touch. She can probably control it enough not to burn her weapons.
Green Visitor 23rd Jun 2018, 5:40 AM edit delete reply
Green Visitor 23rd Jun 2018, 5:42 AM edit delete reply
That +1 was meant to support the belt for slime king, but reinforce it and check that it doesn't detoriate from acid.
Krylo 23rd Jun 2018, 1:28 AM edit delete reply
I doubt that she's proficient in any weapons, and is probably already proficient in her unarmed attacks. We should really see what she can do and whether she's even interested in weapons and armor before we start equipping her.

She's not exactly a normal humanoid party member.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:07 AM edit delete reply
+1 to giving the Belt to our King Slime.

Have you guys checked out her abilities in the party page yet? Hooooly that book from Ranse was a great gift. Let's hope she learns more fun stuff from all the books we bought for her.
Caydenite 23rd Jun 2018, 8:58 AM edit delete reply
+1 for giving her the bandit bandanna.
+1 to offering her choice of equipment, and asking if she wants or even needs any of it.
JiggilyJoe 23rd Jun 2018, 1:30 AM edit delete reply
So Justice, Legrand and Valley can go see about the zwei quest,
Nast should go talk with Inzo, comment on the awesome things he's building and ask what hes currently working on with all the new parts he has, then mention that he will have time while we go out again.
Then Nast Ranse, and slime head out for mushroom hunting.
Let's get on the road again!
Tentechoes 23rd Jun 2018, 1:31 AM edit delete reply
Ask her about her powers. Might wanna know how she works before going out for the adventure. Also, give her the wooden shield for extra protection.
Gandalf 23rd Jun 2018, 2:15 AM edit delete reply
+1 to this. Why guess at what she can do when we could just ask?
G. Sansa 23rd Jun 2018, 2:22 AM edit delete reply
Read the lore for party members.
Gandalf 23rd Jun 2018, 2:56 AM edit delete reply
It's not exactly comprehensive. Doesn't for example resolve the speculation above about whether she can/should be given a weapon.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:10 AM edit delete reply
Yeah at the very least we should talk about it. Best to know our options and limits before another fight tests them.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 7:58 AM edit delete reply
+1. Let's get to know Queenie better.
G. Sansa 23rd Jun 2018, 9:35 AM edit delete reply
Another thing that's missing from the lore is her immunity. I'd expect her to be immune to status effects, with rare exceptions. It's not as if you can nerve pinch a slime.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 10:09 AM edit delete reply
The lore doesn't say anything about immunities.
I guess if there are special immunities they should be mentioned by the lore-entry for that species.
The entry Lore>Bestiary>Oddities>Slime dosn't say anything about that so I guess there is nothing worth mentioning on that front.
A Wiki would probably be more detailed in that regard, but so far there doesn't exist one.
Eyebrows 23rd Jun 2018, 1:59 AM edit delete reply
Ask the king slime how she feels about weapons and if she thinks she could make use of weapons. Maybe we can make a slime whip with a dagger on the end.
TGWMoC 23rd Jun 2018, 2:00 AM edit delete reply
Before we split up again, make sure Justice has heard about the crown, (probably did already, I just like to double-check,) so that if she's ever in a tight pinch, she could try using it on Little Blue. Not the first thing to try mind, since it's single use and could be more useful some other ways most likely, but good to keep in mind just in case.
Krylo 23rd Jun 2018, 2:32 AM edit delete reply
This came to me while chatting in the Discord, but. . .

Slimes are the primordial essence that all monsters evolve from, which means that King Slime here is something of an advanced monster template that has the potential of all monsters within her.

Further, jelly fish are slimes of the sea--very related to slimes of land.

Suggestion: Offer her the jelly fish and see if she can alter herself to gain the paralyzing ability of jelly fish.
Krylo 23rd Jun 2018, 2:35 AM edit delete reply

You know what I mean.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:14 AM edit delete reply
I would prefer if they have a talk instead, the King understands the other slimes after all. Using that jellofish like that... it feels wrong. Not quite canibalism but not far enough from it, either.
Caydenite 23rd Jun 2018, 9:30 AM edit delete reply
I'd try and be careful about how we present the Jellofish to her, don't want to come off as ignorant or rude if it is basically just a fish to her. Like if someone caught a monkey and offered it to us like 'hey, you are basically just this right? Wanna chat to it?'
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 12:41 PM edit delete reply
Good catch Caydenite, I hadn't considered that. So we have to be doubly careful
Lapdragon 23rd Jun 2018, 2:40 AM edit delete reply
Slime King will fight basically like the T-1000 from Terminator 2 - her tentacles/arms can be supple in the middle and very dense at the ends, giving her basically multiple blackjacks to pummel an enemy with, and she can likely form the ends into hard-ish points for stabbing and slashing, but I doubt she could manage serviceable sharp edges.

We might be able to equip her with some fire-hardened wooden blades (reinforced, of course) for now (wooden blades would be field replaceable and cheap to make during the evening after the campfire has been used to make supper), and if glass is a mass-produced thing in this world, we could get her some reinforced glass blades made later on when money isn’t as tight. Glass is commonly resistant to many acids, so she could have permanent edged weapons for her own use that she won’t be at risk of damaging.
ZincFingers 23rd Jun 2018, 2:42 AM edit delete reply
I’d suggest asbestos blades, but they would cause problems down the line.
Twelveseal 23rd Jun 2018, 9:03 AM edit delete reply
Not sure if this will link well, buuuuuuut how about a dress made of glass? Elegant form and deadly function, what with the consentacles and all that.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 10:15 AM edit delete reply
I never heard of a full dress made of glass.
Only glassslippers.
They are magically created by fairy godmothers, but only if you have one evil stepmother and two evil stepsisters and you must want to go to the royal party to see the prince.
Twelveseal 23rd Jun 2018, 3:18 PM edit delete reply
Tbh, I wouldn't have known about it, either, were it not for a college art project I'd seen years ago. Girl made a sweater covered in broken glass and a skirt made of razor blades.

That were actually wearable.
G. Sansa 23rd Jun 2018, 2:43 AM edit delete reply
As party A heads fungus hunting, talk to King further about:

-Crown. Does she want it? Find it offensive? We're not offering it, mind you, until we know how she feels and why.

-Jellofish. Can she absorb it and get its memories and abilities or something? Does she want to bury it? This one we're offering if she wants.

-Entertainers' guild. Would she want to put on a show? If so, what kind? Would she consider THAT kind of show as merely a professional entertainer thing and not a loss of purity? Would Ranse be interested on those terms? Is there another kind of show she'd like to do?

-What she's looking for in a spouse.

-Swimg past the docks and tell her and Ranse the embarrassing story of our fight there. Just for bonding.

Buy steed
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:24 AM edit delete reply
+1 but try to keep it tactful with all these subjects.

Don't treat the jellofish like it's an item unless the King herself does it first, that would be a very offensive mistake on our part.

The rest should be safe topics... I hope.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:27 AM edit delete reply
Actually, I wouldn't tell of our fight with the toads and the skelecan either. We can bond in various ways but we promised Valley and Justice not to mention it, so I want to keep that promise - or if we break it, at least do it for a good reason, not to poke fun at ourselves.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 7:59 AM edit delete reply
Also ask just how intelligent her chamberlain and vizier are. Is the chamberlain close to mitosis or becoming a king slime?

Tell her about the monster crown.
Caydenite 23rd Jun 2018, 9:02 AM edit delete reply
-1 to telling about the embarrassing fight, as Justice and Valley don't want to talk about it.
-1 to asking how intelligent her court is, it's a sensitive subject that has already caused trouble.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 3:03 AM edit delete reply
Nast and his party should go for the fungus, maybe they can aquire a piggu beforehand to help in their search.

Upgrading the Zwei seems to me a better idea than the mines.
Who knows, the very first hint could even be in our book, Arcane Lore, Vol. I.
Otherwise the temple is definitely a good start.
The coffin may not necessary related, it is only roughly a hundred years old after all.

Ask KingSlime if she has a name.
Korsha 23rd Jun 2018, 3:30 AM edit delete reply
If her acid is a problem for any weapon she might use, maybe we can turn the Burn Resist Potion into a coating?
Also, we can totally bang King Slime now.
Ghest 23rd Jun 2018, 3:42 AM edit delete reply
Her touch is only acidic when she forces some of her insides to the outside.
Also, she might not wanna bang in front of her chamberlain and royal vizier.
Korsha 23rd Jun 2018, 4:17 AM edit delete reply
Oh didn't mean then and there, just pointed out we could deal with the acid now :P
Krylo 23rd Jun 2018, 4:19 AM edit delete reply
No we can't.

She wants to get married before she does anything sexual with anyone, and she hasn't shown any evidence of changing that opinion, yet.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 7:34 AM edit delete reply
The concoction is still awesome to have, I bet it will see a lot of use, both in and out of combat.

And yeah, King Slime has other plans and I want to respect that. However, she can always change her mind - she did give Nast her best attempt at a kiss during our last visit and we brought her even more books, sooo...

But Ranse comes first, right? Let's not keep her waiting much longer.
Korsha 23rd Jun 2018, 5:22 AM edit delete reply
Scary thought, we should probably be very wary of letting Slime King meet other people. Besides them being unfriendly towards a slime, we now know the monster crown on her head is very valuable. Somebody's gonna want to take her head
G. Sansa 23rd Jun 2018, 7:08 AM edit delete reply
See if she'd be amenable to camouflaging it. In the tradition of royalty traveling incognito.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 8:01 AM edit delete reply
+1 to all the preceding. o_o;
Twelveseal 23rd Jun 2018, 9:13 AM edit delete reply
She will henceforth be known as Emerald Scholar. Totally not a king, queen, or lord of anything. Just a humble woman jelly of all your libraries.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 1:52 PM edit delete reply
Nice Maoyuu Mao Yuusha reference. :D
Caydenite 23rd Jun 2018, 9:07 AM edit delete reply
Agree with the consensus to set out for the forests, and talking to the queen. I'd also suggest teasing our alchemist a little, as they're still tying to see just how horny they can get.
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 9:40 AM edit delete reply
A thought for future conduct:

Once Nast expends his mana, he tends to slow down and become less effective. This hasn't been an issue yet, thanks to our awesome teammates and, sadly, bald-faced luck, but it is a concern.
Now, Grandpa was a lightning bruiser of a man, and Hurley is enough of a badass normal to get the sandshark halfway right and teach Valley.
We should have some potential to work with.

My suggestion:
Nast needs to start exercizing every day, build up his strength and stamina. If possible, he should spar with Valley or anyone else who wants to help with this, improve his combat skills.

Remember, it only takes one bounty hunter clever enough to wait until we're out of mana after a fight, then hit our allies with tranq darts or something similar, and we'd be up the creek without a paddle.
Let's improve ourselves.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 10:21 AM edit delete reply
That reminds of something I wanted to ask.

Are there Mana Potions?

We have Health Potions, so a Mana Potion should exist too.

We need approximately over 9000 of them.

There could be alternative ways to regenerate mana as well.

The only natural way we know of is sleep/meditation.
Twelveseal 23rd Jun 2018, 3:20 PM edit delete reply
I am reminded of F/SN mana potions. The primary ingredient? Magus jizz.

Seems fitting here.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 11:00 AM edit delete reply
I'm all for starting to exercise and spar, we can even practice our weapons at the same time, to get better with them.

And let's keep an eye out for mana potions and other ways to restore mana. Maybe they're just rare?
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 1:48 PM edit delete reply
We should probably ask Ranse's Dad about them at some point; if anyone is likely to know, it'll be him.
Guy Incognito 23rd Jun 2018, 11:31 AM edit delete reply
+1 to physical training for Nast.
Guest 23rd Jun 2018, 12:08 PM edit delete reply
Tell Inzo to work somewhere other than the slime cave - the slimes will probably listen to their king, but if more arrive while she isn’t there or if they forget their orders, we don’t want to return to a dead goblin and the king slime doesn’t want to have her advisors killed
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 1:18 PM edit delete reply
Just had a look, King Slime is not a class.
The way she joined our party suggested it.
NAME(King Slime), SPECIES(King Slime) CLASS(King Slime) has joined your party is the standard phrase after all.
So, does that mean she can still decide on a class for herself?
GS 23rd Jun 2018, 1:46 PM edit delete reply
I think instead of developing a job class, Queen Slime is learning to explore the limits of her own racial abilities.
It kind of makes sense; she is the first Slime King to exhibit not just intelligence, but a vivid personality (according to Lagrand), and presumably an imagination as well. She is learning everything a Slime can do and be.
Crestlinger 23rd Jun 2018, 1:23 PM edit delete reply mentioned three times. Typo or a third level crown generator?
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 1:38 PM edit delete reply
Nope, not a typo, just the standard phrase for everyone who joins.

Name, Species Class has joined your party.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 2:14 PM edit delete reply
Exactly, plus you can confirm it by checking out the party page.

It seems like our King Slime is really one of a kind, huh?
Jaesooth the Mad 23rd Jun 2018, 2:05 PM edit delete reply
Are there any potions, spells or magical artifacts than can compel someone to speak the truth? If so, we wouldn't necessarily need to catch the real thief.
1977 23rd Jun 2018, 2:15 PM edit delete reply
If there were then I think we hadn't been so nervous about facing execution in the beginning of the comic.

It was implied we wait for the royal guard to bring us to the king and then execute us.

It said nothing about giving us a chance to defend ourselves or even an interrogation beforehand.

If that were the case crimefighting would be really easy, just catch the culprit, give them the truthserum and ask "Are you guilty of these crimes?" and they would be compelled to say yes if they are.
MakePeaceAndLove 23rd Jun 2018, 3:41 PM edit delete reply
I agree with 1977 on this one, if there was a truth serum out there, its mere existence would change the rules, making any defense either unnecesary or impossible.

It would also make our work too easy, too, if we got our hands on it.
Corwin of Amber 24th Jun 2018, 5:13 PM edit delete reply
Do we have any information on mimics? Given grandpa's Farwell I'm wondering if that's what is pretending to be us? Maybe grandpa pissed on off in his youth and this is some form of revenge? Since money can also be helpful maybe selling the crown?
