As the hunter lunges forward, you step backward--and pray to whoever happens to be listening that the fine folks living in this nearby house didn't lock their front door.

As the serrated spear shoots toward your chest, you swing the door wide open. The spear slows as it tears through the wood; you duck to the side as best you can, the sharp and jagged end scraping across the surface of your shield. You hurriedly cast Reinforce on the door... and Deinforce on the spear.

The man attempts to pry his spear out of the door--however, with the door magically reinforced, the serrated tip can't quite rip its way back out. As he briefly struggles with it, you peer--as carefully as you can--around the side of said door, starting to conjure a tornado with your wand.

...And as you do, Valley rushes up behind the hunter, skidding to a stop just long enough to stomp at the ground. Debris bursts forth, rock and gravel spraying at the back of the hunter.

The dislodged ground from Valley's Earthbreaker attack coalesces with your wind wand's small tornado; the debris is swept up into the vortex, keeping it in the air. The shark man growls as sharp stones repeatedly cut at his exposed flesh, and heavier rocks batter at his body. The actual vortex roots him in place, making it a struggle to escape its pull--he quickly disappears in a storm of dust and detritus.

You've discovered the combo ability Terranado.

...However, you feel the strain setting in. You've taken it fairly easy since the docks, but you haven't really RESTED--your mana hasn't really recovered all that much. The physical exhaustion starts to catch up to you. You don't think you have much magic left in the tank.

His growl slowly segues into a low roar. Valley swings her massive zwei overhead, bringing it crashing down into the terranado (and onto the hunter); he throws his arms up, using his coral bands to block the edge of the blade. However, it's not the sharpness that's the problem--it's the sheer weight, the blunt impact, and that's a little harder to block. He's forced to one knee, the twisting vortex of stone and dirt still whipping viciously at him.

As soon as he hits the ground, however, he turns in place--firing a kick out at one of Valley's shins. She's still off balance from swinging the zwei, and the hunter's kick sends her toppling forward... straight into the terranado.

Rather than take the opportunity to try and escape it, the shark makes an effort to keep Valley inside it. He kicks and stomps at her, trying to keep her on the ground. It's clear that he's wary of her strength--he keeps his legs and feet out of her reach, as she could probably drag him to the ground with ease if she could get a hold of him. He sticks to kicking at her ribs and thighs, making it hard for her to find her footing.

He doesn't do much damage... but the combined special attack does, the rocks tearing and beating at both the man and Valley alike. By the time it fades away, Valley's still on the ground, barely conscious.

The man hasn't fared much better. He's doubled over, wobbling, fighting to stay standing... but he is standing. It's an incredible testament to his durability... or something else. You can't get a great look at him with this door still here, but--

"He's regenerating!," Justice yells from her better vantage point. "His wounds are healing! Slowly, but nonetheless he's HEALING!"

- Snap his spearhead off with a quick smack of your shield using the door as a fulcrum.
- Either use the shield or the snapped off spear haft to smack the warrior on the noggin. KO him with a swift knock to the motor centers of the brain.

Also double first.

Break the spear, knock him out with the shield. The spear has being Deinforced, so it might just snap if we hit him with, plus we’d lose time to pulling it from the door.

-1 to stealing. We are wanted as a panty THIEF, we do not want to promote this idea. Stealing from creatures is ok, stealing from people is something else.

Justice needs to steal the guy's Regen ability!
Nast hit him with the spear or shield or something.

Lore says Regen is a status effect!

Justice, heal Valley ASAP. Nast, even if it takes all the mana you have left, poison this guy while he's still off balance. Valley, sweep the leg.

I agree with the healing and leg sweep lf we poison him and we want to take him alive, do we have a method to cure said poison? If Justice martyrs it, do we have a way to cure Justice?

The poison will basically only cancel out his regen power, and only temporarily — in these games, poison wears off after a while, and chances are that it will be shorter for somebody with natural regen powers. So yes, absolutely, poison him; otherwise, he's basically got nothing to fear from us.

After Justice heals Valley, maybe she can Status Martyr the "prone" status? Or just help her stand up normally?

We have to distract this guy in the meantime. So, slam the door closed, hopefully hitting him with the back end of the spear (even though that will be a minor inconvenience, shout "You've sharked the jump this time!", lunge in, poison, steal, then ostentatiously throw whatever it is we get from the steal away from this guy, saying "Were you missing this?" He'll punch/kick us but we can block that with the shield, and all this should give Justice time to heal Valley.

Hmm, the poison is pretty potent though, and it’s only a slow regen. But if everyone else is happy with poisoning fish, I’m happy with poisoning the fish... yeah, screw him, let’s poison the fish.

I hope that with poison he doesn't just up and die; I hope that it only makes it clear to him that he can't take all of us, and surrenders. If he looks about to die, definitely tell him that we'll help him if he surrenders.

If he does, Valley quickly ties him up and Justice heals him enough to keep him alive. If we give one recovereat to Valley and one to him, the poison will probably wear off on its own before it gets into danger zone. Soon enough Lagrand will arrive and can detox him if not.

One problem I foresee, Fishy likes a challenge, if we best him and let him go, he’ll just come back more prepared. He’s already made it clear that he either thinks we are guilty, or doesn’t care if we are innocent. He has been paid to take us alive, so that is what he will do.

I think we have enough healing to keep a martyr-poisoned Justice alive long enough. In these games, poison wears off eventually, so it's just a matter of healing for long enough; and there may be some kind of medical professionals available.

Heck, worst comes to worst, she could attach herself to Valley, status martyr Valley's arousal from the sucking, we could fuck Justice who'd enjoy it due to the arousal, and hopefully get inspired with some kind of healing/detox magic. It's a bit more "crisis" than "sexy" but it could work. Of course that only works if we get enough mana from leveling up from defeating this guy to actually cast our new detox spell.

Anyway, none of that matters right now. Right now, we have to beat him first.

If you do choose to Poison him be ready to stick with it until he dies. If he's the type to come back more prepared, we may be saving ourselves trouble down the way.

Or we can start trouble by angering his family that will come to avenge him if he doesn't return, you never know.

At this stage I'm not against Poisoning him anymore. He means business, and with that Regeneration he can last through the Poison for some time at least. Long enough so we can question him, at any rate.

I'm glad that the door trick and Deinforcing his spear worked out, though. If he still had his weapon with him this could've been so much harder. O.O

Yeah, I'm for poisoning in the hopes it cancels out the regen, so long as it doesn't make us pass out. I'd be cautious whilst doing it, he's quick and has fangs: we want Nast to have the same number of hands he started with.

Wild speculation, but Regenerate isn't a status, and certainly not one that could be taken with Martyr, right?

+1 to poisoning, if necessary throw wind shield first or afterwards. Updated lore says poison and regen cancel each other out. If poison is stronger then Sharkys death is self-defence, not execution.

Prsuminghe survives, tell Justice to heal Valley and (presumably healed) Valley to immobilize him with reinforced vines, in case we pass out from the spell.

Don't break the spear unless he recovers, rather identify it.

The Lore got updated? Cool beans. still poison the fish, maybe steal if we can do both at once. If it only cancels (there is no damage overflow to his life) out the regen then we don’t have to worry of it killing him.

Absolutely Poison this fuck. He came starting shit in our home town. Where our mum lives. There's lines, and there's lines. Also, it <i>should</i> cancel our his regen.

To his credit, he genuinely seems to have no intention of involving Nast's parents. If he did, taking them as hostages would have been the logical course of action.

Echoing the general idea : Justice lays her Healing Hands on Valley, we start by swiftly breaking the spear - should be easy enough.

Not sure I want to use big magic right now, just in case, so I'd start by using this shield for what it was made for : ranged bludgeoning. Keeping our distances seem smart, he is clearly a very good meleer.
It should at least slow sharkbro. He could even be weakened enough that this drops him, at least for now.
That would allow us the opportunity to question him later.


If that doesn't work, Poison the fucker and hope we don't pass out from exhaustion. We'll be in danger, Justice will have shown her hand and painted herself as a target, it will all be too risky for a capture attempt.

In another situation I'd have suggestions regarding the wand and most people's need for breathing, but we're too exhausted (and probably a bit panicky) for live experimentations.

Fine, poison him. Hopefully he'll live or he doesn't count as constabulary. Then hit him with the shield until he passes out. Then de-equip any accessory he has that might be the source of his regeneration. Then work the spear out of the door by pushing it on through, not pulling the head back through. Be ready to apologize to the neighbor and offer to pay to have the door fixed.

While looting him after he is down is obvious, I think his regeneration could be a racial trait.

Definitely poison him while Justice heals Valley. If he starts getting too strong, we need to hit him with the wind knife from the wand. This guy is tough, and if we give him a chance he will take us out.

A "Wind-Knife"-attack needn't be fatal, just 'limb' him by cutting at a leg. Once he's subdued, try again to reason with him. It might help if he sees that you COULD kill him, & you don't WANT to. As long as he's not dead, then death can still remain as a fallback option, after all else fails.

It was established that De/Reinforce has no effect on living beings.
It has an effect on animated things like golems and the statues in the temple.

Definitely poison the shark man, also if Justice can "Status Martyr" for allies, can she try "Status Stealing" on foes? Ie, temorarily displace the shark's Regen Status, onto herself?or even another party member? Vally/Nast?

Most likely only onto herself, Status Martyr is one-way. But if she can steal that Regen status, we'd get the upper hand on him.

If she does, she needs to try before we Poison him ourselves though.

Be sure to give him an out, so he understands that we'd spare him if he surrenders. "The pod of dolphins protect their own, but cease their attack when the shark turns away" or something. We don't want this to be a life-or-death battle unless it has to be.

We're pretty low on Mana as it stands, and Valley is in critical condition. The simplest solution is best: Wheel about, even if we're not that strong, and bash him right in the nose with our shield. Throw it, if you have to--it is balanced for that. We need to end this, and FAST. We're in awful shape.

An important question is what happens when HP reaches 0/slightly negative. Unconsciousness or death? I suspect there is some step before death, so that we can go all out and then tie him up and heal him when he conks out. But if not, it gets much harder to reach a place where he is not a serious threat but also not dead.

I hope it's the former, and I hope that's something everyone in this world knows.

+1 to poisoning him to cancel out his regen, and
+1 to Justice healing Valley so Valley can deliver the final blow while he's hopefully focussed on us.

I'd also agree to using a Wind Slice to cut off one of his limbs and apologizing afterwards (protecting our friends is paramount), but it doesn't sound like we'd have the mana for it so we shouldn't risk it.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the term Martyr. I don't believe Status Martyr is meant to be able to steal beneficial status. The words imply that she is making a sacrifice by taking a negative status from an ally or a friendly target and suffering the effects herself.

What Lore Says:
Status Martyr: Takes a status effect from someone else, instead giving it to herself.
Regen: An undeniably beneficial status effect, regen causes a character to slowly recover HP over time. Health returns, wounds heal, and injuries mend, albeit slowly and steadily instead of all at once (like with most healing effects). Regen typically heals about as quickly as poison can damage--however, regen status is (usually) temporary, and the healing stops after a period of time. Some creatures have a natural regen effect, and some equipment can provide more permanent regen status.

I know what it says, but I still do not think that is the intent of the spell. You do not "martyr" yourself by stealing a beneficial effect. If the intent were to steal beneficial status effects, it would be called something like "Status Theft."

And our order of actions should be thus:

1. Poison him to cancel the regen
2. Break the spear to disarm him
3. Bash him with the shield until he stops moving

If he survives the encounter, great. If not, well that's just something we have to live with.

Everyone needs to remember this: this story is meant to mirror old school video game rpgs. Knocking a target to 0 hit points to take them out of combat does not necessarily mean the target dies. It depends on the story. If the author means for him to die if we defeat him or wants him to live, it will be up to him whether he is dead. Characters die at the whim of the storyteller, not the actions of the player.

We need to try things before we use magic; we'll knock ourselves out.

Steal from him first, Maybe justice can take his regen, but she can certainly heal Valley, who might take him while he's weaker.
