Morgenstern
You introduce yourself and your allies to Ranse's father, and assure him that you'll protect her.

"She... seems to believe in you," he says. "And I trust her feelings... so I believe in you, as well."

From the sound of it, he's fairly well traveled--you ask him if he's aware of any books on monster lore... and also if he knows where any puppeteers may be located.

"I'm... certain such books exist," he replies. "There are... scholars. Those that study the world without touching it. Those that write and document. We know... a great deal. Because of them. You may not find the books you seek around these meager parts, but I'm sure guides to various monsters have been produced over the years. As for puppeteers..."

He stops, seeming to give it some thought. And to sneak a glance at Valley's cleavage.

"When I... was still a young man myself, there was one. In Lightsend, west of Threeroads. He had... set up shop there, so to speak. Odd man. Bit of a recluse. I... believe he had been there for a very long time. If he's still alive... he may still live there. If I may inquire... why do you seek a puppeteer?"

"I-It's... alongstory," Ranse states.

"It truly is," Justice confirms. "We require a very specific type of golem to prevent a small conflict from escalating."

"Like, I don't know why you guys are dancing around this?," Valley replies. "Old dude could totally help?"

"Please," Ranse's dad insists, trying his hardest not to stare directly at Valley's tits. "I'm only in my 40s. What is... the situation you speak of?"

"Really, it'snotabigdeal--" Ranse blurts out, trying to interfere but--

"The local goblins need, like, someone to fuck?," Valley replies quite casually. Ranse facepalms, and Justice withholds a sigh. Valley continues. "But like, it's complicated and junk. If we do get 'em like... a sex golem, they'll like... stop paying their ladies any attention. If we bring like, an 'entertainer?' It'll be a one-off, and they could totally just go back to starting beef? We could try to like... I dunno, make the goblin girls hotter, but I don't know how."

Ranse grits her teeth. She's visibly torn between offering her vast insight, and not wanting to talk about goblin fucking in front of her dad. Her ego wins out, and with a slight, huffy sigh, she speaks up. "We've... s-started. To develop a theory that... goblins. Really... I mean SERIOUSLY are about... a-about asses. I... h-hate to say it. But. ...But."

"Butts may be the key to stopping the war," Justice concludes.

Ranse's dad, who has not taken his eyes from Valley's rack the entire time, strokes at his beard. "Hmm. A... transmutator. Transmuter? I can never get them straight. Regardless, one may be capable of granting all the goblin women... more robust rear ends. I believe I could replicate such a feat with alchemy, as well, but it would... require materials. Materials I do not have."

"Y-you..." Ranse pauses, taking a breath. "Youwouldseriously brew up potions th-that... make asses bigger?"

He shrugs his shoulders. "It would... be a nice change of pace. Not... my ideal work, but. What can you do? Besides, if it does work... it could be a business opportunity. There must be a market. For rounder buttocks. Consider it, I'll be around--I work the day shift now that my son is... taking over nights."

You consider switching Ranse into your party to go meet the King Slime; she seemed interested in seeing a humanoid King Slime in the first place, and it's likely good that they meet BEFORE you try to pitch any... tentacle action. Though, you'd need to decide who to switch out to bring Ranse in.

You also give Ranse the poisoned meat and acid enzyme. You mention where they came from, but you wisely leave out the details of the fight.

"I... can definitely. Dosomethingwiththese," she says.

Switch out Valley for Ranse.

I still want Ranse to be around Justice for awhile so she can get a very good idea of what Justice's divine magic smells like and later compare it to other clerics. If they all smell/taste the same, there may be something to them being granted by a god (or there still may not, it'll be a discussion to have).

Also, ask Ranse's father what materials he'd need. That'll give us two methods of making goblin girls more acceptable to goblin men.

Although I feel like maybe we should send Inzo back to the goblin village to talk to the goblin women about how they'd feel about being changed to attract goblin men. Maybe they don't even want that?

Personally I'm fine with a sex golem leading to the goblins dying in a generation.

Also, I suggest we go to Peace Calling before heading to the Slime King's Cave as doing so after might involve hauling the Slime King with us, plus Peace Calling is closer to Humblestart than the Caves are.

Whilst still in Humblestart, if we are confidant in our disguise, I still think it might be worth getting money in exchange for reinforcing the prison bars, Valley can tell the guards she found someone willing to do the work because she felt so bad about the underwear thief escaping on her watch.
Krylo 3rd Jun 2018, 1:21 AM edit delete reply
While the money is good, our disguise potion wore off, and I don't think a scarf and new clothes is goingto be good enough if we talk to guards.

If we combine the two methods - sex golem and butt potion - we may just be able to bring their demographic to a happy middle ground, where they neither explode nor die out.

Like, the sex golem lets goblins do it as much as they want, but they still have to take turns, one by one.

Meanwhile, their goblin ladies are more attractive, but the goblins would still have to - I dunno, be nice to them? Praise them some? Not just take them for granted and motorboat their improved butts.

Either way, making the potions being good for Ranse's Dad's business is an awesome bonus.

Agree that a golem and happy demographic collapse is better than butts and demographic explosion. Though I guess if it really is just butts there's no explosion.

Also agree on checking out PC while we're here.

A little worried that we need a tank in the party but don't expect high-level opponents around here. Also leaving Justice in might be good for inspiration. Begin angling toward that (probably in PC). Ranse can watch/participate.

See if Valley wants to stay with Dad until we get back.

To Lightsend!
We can visit Justice's hometown, maybe meet her family, and hopefully find a puppeteer so we can get started on our golem and get closure on the Goblin/Slime-War.

Yes, we should send Inzo to make enquiries whether any gob ladies want the Nikki Minaj or the Kim Kardashian treatment.
Don't worry too much about demographic explosion; the treatment would not be free, after all. Gobs would need to earn money; make it clear to them that stolen loot will not be accepted, and they might actually become productive neighbours.

And I mean: to Lightsend by way of Humblestart.

We need to talk to Nast's family, too. Find out whether there's a long-lost twin sister given up for adoption, or Nast is the one adopted.

Blech, I meant Lightsend by way of Peace Calling. So tired... >_<
Barswanian 3rd Jun 2018, 1:37 AM edit delete reply
Confirmed, Ranse was not pulling double shifts.

If we're going to Nast's hometown, let's keep Valley around yet.

What time is it? Past noon, right? Nighttime, we might get to have Justice/Valley/Nast shenanigans. Let's not miss out on that.

Oh! Lagrand, Inzo, Ranse meanwhile could be working on things to bring some style to the group as a whole maybe?
GS 3rd Jun 2018, 1:42 AM edit delete reply
Combat drills, yes!

We should hold one with the current party before we retire for the night -- outside of Humblestart.

Hmmm... If we get really good at combat drills, we might use those to get into the entertainers' guild, rather than tear Queen Slime away from her people for a stage show.

I thought Ranse having a brother was confirmed earlier by the fact they don't look that similar to each other (since the disguise potion is a genderbend) and since days passed without her popping one herself, since those work only 24 hours? But it is nice to see they manage to run the business without her.

And yes let's not miss out on that, we did promise them both we'd have some more 'later'.

Nast, Justice and Ranse go to the slime cave to meet and educate KingSlime.
Ask Ranse's dad about the ingredients for the asspotion and send Valley, Lagrand and Inzo as secondary party to collect them.
After visiting, educating and even maybe recruiting KingSlime into our party we can check Nast's parents.
One final visit in Humblestart to check for the asspotion and then on to dontknowwhatyet.
MakePeaceAndLove 3rd Jun 2018, 2:34 AM edit delete reply
+1 to these, but collecting ingredients assumes they're somewhere close by. If Lagrand recognizes they're from the Witch's Woods then our secondary party may have some luck collecting them, after all.

Don't forget the Summoner we sent ahead to the King Slime though. We may recruit her if she's still there... I hope.

Two birds, one stone. We might be able to snag some slime... stuff? Whatever the technical term for the slime on the inside of a slime is... we already know it’s used it the Gob Juice, probably has various other alchemic uses.

IMO, before we go anywhere, we should ask what Ranse's dad would need for an ass-enhancer. Finding a Transmuter would be great, but we can't count on it happening anytime soon. We should find out what our options are while we're here, including if he knows where we can find these other magic users. They could also be reasonably connected to our being framed as well, so meeting them might trigger bigger issues, and more quests, than just this monster war.

We can still go to lightsend, but only after checking in on the Slime King with Ranse in tow, and maybe the Goblins with her out of the party to prevent... misunderstandings. We might want to see what we're working with as far as female goblins go, and how they feel about the situation and our possible solutions. Maybe have Valley there for that one.
MakePeaceAndLove 3rd Jun 2018, 2:37 AM edit delete reply
I agree that we should ask about the ingredients.

If we visit the goblins to talk with their ladies and find out how they feel about the situation, then our party should be Nast, Valley and Inzo, just like last time. Hopefully that way they won't jump to any hasty conclusions.

Switch Justice for Ranse.

If I might suggest...
...you have menu-selections for
[Inventory]
[Party]
[World Map]
...but what about a selection for [Quests]?
Each Quest might list:
- Page# where the Quest was accepted.
- What you need to do, & why.
- Page# where the Quest ends.
- Did you Succeed-or-Fail?
- What kind of XP-&/or-Items did you get out of it?

That would take quite some effort to complete. It's also why, so far, Morgenstern has left tracking the quests (and NPCs for that matter) mostly up to us.

Since this isn't a game, book or a video, the story can evolve in unexpected ways, with all new characters and items becoming important. That's a LOT to keep track of, for anybody.

At least the community here has been awesome at remembering those details, though. When we put our heads together there's a much better chance at least one person remembered that one obscure detail from dozens of pages ago.

Hmm, Morgenstern’s already doing a stellar job, and so far we’ve been pretty much on the ball for remembering what we want to get done. I’m sure more than one person out there is keeping notes, something I’ve entertained the idea of doing.

A WIKI could help with that as well.

The lorepages could be a good start for some pages which could then be expanded upon as well.

For example the entry for Humblestart in a wiki would begin with a copy of the loretext and then there would be additional details about what all happened there, which shops and businesses where visited and so on.

Upon drinking this concoction, your back end assumes the shape that best fits your current clothes. WARNING - do not drink while naked (at least, if you plan to fit through any doors before the effect expires).
