You create a wind to sweep across the dock, carrying one of the tingly toads into the air and out to sea. You try to angle it to take both remaining toads, but you can't... quite get it wide enough.

Which is okay, because Valley moves forward... and very deliberately stomps on the last toad.

Nothing fancy, just smashes it under her boot.

You turn, just us the skelecan is swooping in low behind you. You fire a wind blade, but the skelecan barrel rolls with its wings tucked close, feathers scattering into the air as it narrowly avoids the majority of it. It seems VERY adept at dealing with wind attacks.

You hit the deck, diving to avoid getting swallowed up again. You feel the skelecan soar past, its webbed feet skimming your hair.

The skelecan's path continues on, taking it straight at Valley. She swings her stone zwei high--the skelecan pulls up and aside, trying to clear out of the way of the weapon. The bird... ALMOST makes it, clipped by the edge of the heavy weapon as it falls. It's not enough of a direct hit to finish the skelecan off, but it does send it sputtering, its flight path more erratic as it tumbles back around toward the dock.

Within moments, it crumples, the poison taking care of what little health the skelecan had remaining.

Justice places a hand on Valley, healing the damage the frog spit did to her face.

Valley takes a breath. "Okay, like... when we tell this story later? We should totally act like it went better? 'Cuz like... a bird and some frogs almost spanked us. It was most unheroic."

"I don't think I can bring myself to lie about these events," Justice replies. "...Perhaps we should just not speak of them at all."

From what's left of the monsters, you acquire acid enzyme and poisoned meat.

Tech 1st Jun 2018, 7:40 PM edit delete reply
Keep the acidic enzyme for Ranse.
GS 2nd Jun 2018, 2:58 AM edit delete reply
The poisoned meat, too. She thought she could work with faerie-befouled water. Who knows what she can do with mage-poisoned flesh?
Crestlinger 1st Jun 2018, 7:41 PM edit delete reply
Skull helm so identify (specifically to check for curses) then reinforce it and see who it fits or if it is a one-size-magics-all type equipment.
ZincFingers 1st Jun 2018, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, identify the helm. Then I guess continue on to... was it Humblestart next or the Slime Cavern?

Either way, once back in Humblestart, we could drop by the Tavern, listen for some rumors / gossip. If we have a good enough disguise, we could offer to reinforce the prison bars, for a hefty fee (the extra cost is penance for letting that dastardly underwear thief escape).
Tentechoes 1st Jun 2018, 9:51 PM edit delete reply
+1 to this. I think we would be going to Humblestart first to get ranses' tentacle porn fanfic :0 then we would go to the Slime cavern to teach the Slime king new.. techniques ;)

Also we already listened to the rumors/gossips a hundred pages ago :0 unless there are newer ones around when we got out of the cell, might as well take a look. . We should be a bit wary too, maybe we should wear the helmet as a disguise so that we look as a very exotic adventurer? (also a question, can we post nsfw fanart in the comment section or no? ;0;)
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 10:38 PM edit delete reply
+1 to Identify and perhaps reinforce the Skull Helm. It does sound like it should be useful when we meet more undead or when we'll need a disguise.

Alternatively we can let our Summoner wear it, if/when she joins the party - though admittedly she was already dressed in bones... and although undead can't reproduce (?) they should still inspire her with a spell if she can get one to, hmm, cooperate?
Spades 1st Jun 2018, 8:31 PM edit delete reply
Maybe we can trick something or someone into eating the poisoned meat. Alternatively Lagrand can detox it later and we'd have ordinary meat.
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 10:40 PM edit delete reply
+1 to this. I think it's more useful as regular meat even if we use it as bait, since we usually feed monsters we're trying to befriend.

+1 to everything said before but cover the bandana with the purple robe-scarf if possible. If it's not possible then remember to replace it so not to look suspicious.
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 10:41 PM edit delete reply
+1 on hiding the bandana

We could wrap our robe-scarf into a turban shape on our head, while also letting the bottom cover our mouth. Nobody would suspect a bandana under a turban!
Korsha 1st Jun 2018, 10:03 PM edit delete reply
Save the meat for Ranse to identify the poison and make an antidote. Then, find the thief again, feed her the meat, and blackmail her into coming clean and fucking the goblins!
Guest 1st Jun 2018, 10:27 PM edit delete reply
If we do that we may risk angering the entire thieves guild and making them our enemy. Right now we don't know how involved they are and we still want info from Sweets and the GM. yes to letting Ranse make an antidote though.
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 10:45 PM edit delete reply
Yeah if Ranse can make us an antidote based on this, that would be sweet to have.

And I'd feel bad poisoning and blackmailing Mel like that. Even if she tried to turn us in for execution, I wouldn't want her to die for it OR become a sex slave of a whole goblin tribe. It also feels a tad too bloodthirsty for Nast, but maybe that's just how I read our character.
ZincFingers 1st Jun 2018, 11:29 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, lets not get into blackmailing, even if they are criminals.
1977 2nd Jun 2018, 1:59 AM edit delete reply
Getting on the bad side of the thieves guild is a really bad idea.
GS 2nd Jun 2018, 3:14 AM edit delete reply
Not to mention, we don't want to go over to the dark side.
Guest 1st Jun 2018, 10:28 PM edit delete reply
Make sure the toad in the water is not going to come around for an ambush.
Krylo 1st Jun 2018, 10:43 PM edit delete reply
Try to convince Justine and Valley that this was all actually completely according to your plan. Except for the part where Valley got acid in her face.

You foresaw 14,000 futures, and this was the most efficient method of defeating these creatures.
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
.... eh, -1. No need to brag that we have foresight like that, then fail our friends when they rely on it in another situation.

I'd say we agree with Justice to not mention this fight to the others - or just let Ranse take a look at the acid enzyme and poisoned meat and figure out what she can do with those without mentioning how the battle went.

The Skull Helmet was worth taking a risk though.
1977 2nd Jun 2018, 2:16 AM edit delete reply
Lying to our allies, especially about abilities we don't really have, is never a good idea.
It leads to expectations we can not fulfill.
If we don't met expectations it leads to disappointment.
Disappointment leads to anger and anger leads to the dark side of the force.

-1 as much as I appreciate a sublte infinity war refernece (maybe o.o), lying to our allies is not a good idea.
Krylo 2nd Jun 2018, 6:43 AM edit delete reply
It was a reference yes, and a joke, not a serious suggestion.
G. Sansa 2nd Jun 2018, 1:39 PM edit delete reply
+1 for making jokes.

Also we should check that Justice is OK with being a bit of murder hobos. The skelecan was a killer and the world is probably better without it and the frogs attacked us first but still.
MakePeaceAndLove 1st Jun 2018, 11:08 PM edit delete reply
I suggest inspecting Nast's body and clothes for damage. Digestive acids aren't the strongest out there, but if there's even a drop left on us to continue dealing damage, it should burn unpleasantly.

We might even strip and wash it off, but maybe after running back from the docks and onto the beach, since climbing back up the wooden poles would be a bother.

Then we can come back to Valley and Justice to heal that damage we took.

We should also congratulate them on a job well done. Valley took out those toads nicely, and Justice really turned the whole fight around with Status Martyr by letting Valley act again and defend them both effectively.
ZincFingers 1st Jun 2018, 11:25 PM edit delete reply
All our clothes and stuff are reinforced, so the acid might not be such a large concern. But, I agree the team did well, and should be told so.
GS 2nd Jun 2018, 1:50 AM edit delete reply
+1 to congratulating the team for performing well under trying circumstances.
Justice did well for her first engagement, and Valley is awesome as always.
Corwin of Amber 2nd Jun 2018, 12:25 AM edit delete reply
Let's not forget the cave right here, especially if it's at low tide now.
G. Sansa 2nd Jun 2018, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
I disagree. Right now it's a distraction.

Heal up with milk, heal Valley with Justice. Quickly stop by the ranch and buy a bird for the king slime to ride (and to make eggs for her to eat). Continue on to Humblestart.
MakePeaceAndLove 2nd Jun 2018, 1:24 AM edit delete reply
We can check that cave another day altogether. Wherever it leads we'd probably get detoured big time if we went there now.

That said, I don't think now is the time to buy a bird either. What will one bird help with? Our party still moves at the speed of its slowest unit, and we're not rich enough to buy birds for everyone. That leaves just the eggs but we're not really starving now, either.

I say we just head to Humblestart where Ranse can get her business done and then continue straight to the Slime Cave.
1977 2nd Jun 2018, 2:09 AM edit delete reply
The only cave we should go to now is the slime cave.

Notes for the future:

+ Our 'poison'-spell is more potent than expected. It's not just debilitating, it's a killer. Only use it on serious enemies we need shut down hard in future.

+ Next time we have the whole party together, we need to hold combat drills. We also need to purchase some books on monster lore; misreading that skelecan's creature type could have ended messily.
1977 2nd Jun 2018, 2:07 AM edit delete reply
On the stautus effects page poison was already described as very potent, so it didn't surprise me.
That's why I'm against using poison on Mel for example, because it would kill her and that would make us murderers.
Together with the info on the thieves guild murdering one of their members is practically a death sentence for us.
MakePeaceAndLove 2nd Jun 2018, 4:16 AM edit delete reply
+1 All great ideas

The Poison reminds me of Poison/Burn from Pokemon, which if I remember right took off 1/8th of the target's HP. Making them especially useful for tough enemies and bosses.

I'd love to know more about how certain mechanics work. Maybe we can find a spell or artifact that helps us here, even 'view enemy HP' would be useful... although keeping HP abstract and keeping us unsure how tough enemies are might be better for the comic overall, so, there's that.
Sparky 2nd Jun 2018, 3:05 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, lets get the enzyme to Ranse. she'd love that I bet
Twelveseal 2nd Jun 2018, 3:20 AM edit delete reply
Agreed. She might be able to cook up a new weapon, or maybe something more effective or lasting at resisting acids like, say, a King Slime's fluids, than our current potion.

Let’s see if we can find and safely capture the toad that ended up in the water - I suspect having been dunked in seawater for a few minutes will have made it safe to handle for at least a minute or two while we bag it up for safer long-term handling.

Having a ready source of paralysis sounds like an incredibly useful thing (touching our “toad in a pouch” to an unsuspecting guard, for example), and maybe Inzo and Ranse can figure out how to make a throwable stun bottle out of toad extracts, or we can smear toad slime concentrate on a couple of our weapons to improve our sometimes lackluster combat performance.

G. Sansa 2nd Jun 2018, 7:45 AM edit delete reply
Doubt we can find a road in the ocean, but getting Inzo to craft a net to have in our inventory for next time should be on the to-do list. Small animals can be useful.
MakePeaceAndLove 2nd Jun 2018, 8:17 AM edit delete reply
-1, I'd rather let that live toad get away and leave the docks as fast as we can.

Unless you're afraid it'll return with friends and family next time, but I just don't think 'leave no survivors' suits Nast.

Professor Cupcake
That's gonna be real hard to find.

A weird thought... What if that angry drunk we met at the inn in Humblestart is the very puppeteer we need, drunk and despondent over the nation's bias against the puppeteer's profession?
